See, you all are using the term in the appropriate way, not the way that the majority of people understand the term. Most people don't think of identity politics in this way because it's not what they have been told it is. It would also force them to admit that it is happening constantly and they have fallen prey to it, which creates dissonance. This is why they create a construct in which their side isn't engaging in it to help alleviate the dissonance.
