Prior to the zero tolerance policy, children were only removed from their parents if the parents were being charged with serious crimes like drug smuggling, human trafficking, or violent crimes.

So, I am only comparing jay walking to crossing the border if you are comparing crossing the border to any of those offenses.

"A crime is a crime" is the attitude your side is taking. At least my example is the same severity in the legal system.
