1. Because most people don't understand what socialism is.

Anecdote: my family is mostly very right. My grandmother passed a few weeks ago. At the funeral, several were complaining that the government didn't do anything to help in the end (she had exhausted all their finances and it takes months to get medicare approved for a ltc facility). That segued into the two deputies in the family complaining the new administration was going to force them to start confiscating people's guns to pay for socialized healthcare and free college. I asked them why they were going to confiscate guns to pay for that (since the government wouldn't be able to sell them to us citizens) and the answer was "sell them to mexico."

So we went from "we should've had universal healthcare" to "they're taking your guns to pay for healthcare you don't need."

I really don't get the logic, and it's from people I care about.

2. Well, bezos and others have benefited a lot from the pandemic. No, I don't think they caused it, but in answering the question as stayed: money. If people can't go to a local shop to buy something, they've got to use Amazon, walmart pickup, kroger pickup, door dash, etc.
