Trump has lied about and turned his mob against anyone who fails him, whether what he assigned that person to do was possible or not, as with Pence. 

Why Republicans thought they could appease and satiate Trump is beyond me.   

Also, it's funny how none of the politicians who were doing exactly what the mob wanted them to do stuck around to meet them. It's almost like they don't trust these peaceful Patriots they've stuffed full of fear and propaganda.
