This. The absolute best pass rusher in the league will have multiple games with zero sacks. Sacks happen so rarely that it is not fair to judge a players impact by just that one stat.
With NextGen stats they use GPS to determin exactly when a defender gets closer to the QB than the blocker, i.e. "beat the block". They discovered that the first player to beat his blocker often does not get the sack but the pressure created by that first rusher leads directly to a sack by another player. They were talking about creating a new stat like "sack assist" or "sacks created". This way you would see a lot more interior guys getting credit for creating sacks with their pressure.
