20 years ago the enemy of our freedom and way of life was supposedly over in the middle east. Now the ante has been upped to the enemy of our freedom and way of life being our fellow Americans and the government they support. 

The jingoistic fervor and desire to break the rules because there no rules in war has been turned inward.  I don't think we become a one party authoritarian state, but i do know there are a significant number of people who denounce the entire concept of democracy if it means Biden over Trump.
