I won't say rabid division is a good thing, but when I think of voter unity within the USA I think of Reagan, Nixon, Truman nuking civilians, and post-911 George W Bush and it could be debated on how much of that unity brought about positive change.

OH, and I forgot damn near everyone hating Barry Goldwater...whichever way the wind blows on that guy.
