I work with folks from areas that police don't go, and it's been that way for generations. Their holler is inhabited by one branch of a family that spells their name slightly different than another branch and they have been feuding for a century or more.

A feud likely sparked by a perceived insult or off hand comment. It's great, in a weird way, that there are still parts of the country like this.
