Bengals extend Shawn Williams
#81
Coming in on this late, but though it's odd timing it's logical financially. Locking him in means you aren't negotiating with him coming off of a great season. If I'm reading this correctly (4M guaranteed) , he can literally lose his job this year to Smith and be an expensive backup for one year, and then they cut him two years from now with little dead money. We ask what's the rush, but the real question is what's the risk? If he plays above average around a great defense then it's hard to not see him getting that same deal with more guaranteed money on the market. If he doesn't play well then what are they really out? Here's to a great season from Williams and one less deal to worry about.
