How will Mike Brown spend his extra 10 million

(not your post specifically, but people moaning about Jones and Whit leaving) First off, Jones left the same money he was offered in Detroit on the table here in Cincinnati. He did not want to be a #2 receiver, and the only way to keep him would have been to let Green go. He left to be a #1 and build his brand in a bigger market. People need to let that go, paying him more than he was offered, to be a #2, would have been insane. As for Whit, again, he was offered the same money the Rams gave him, but for only a 1 year deal. At his age, a multi-year deal is also insane. He could have been loyal to the team that made him a multi-multi-millionaire and given them the hometown discount and stayed on a year to year basis, but he got pissed when we drafted what was supposed to be his eventual replacement, and pouted every since. He has no loyalty. Screw him. He cannot beat father time...  when he retires, I hope Mike Brown makes him retire a Ram....

Of all the players we've lost, those were the 2 that would've helped the most had we kept them. Jones is better than LaFell and Whitworth is better than any tackle on the roster. Now, I'm not saying it's entirely the Bengals fault these 2 guys walked. According to the Bengals, they thought they had Jones wrapped up and went to bed to wake up and find out he signed in Detroit. That was Jones' decision. However, if the team wanted him back, don't go to sleep until the contract is signed. Again, Jones made the decision to leave but the team said they felt he was coming back. If he was a priority, they shouldn't have stopped until he signed the contract.

As for Whitworth, a 2 year deal wouldn't have been insane. The Bengals saw how well his replacement was working out and they should've done more to keep Whitworth. Again, he ultimately made the decision to bolt, but the team kept telling everyone he was coming back. That was the word at the combine. Lewis was telling everyone Whit was in the fold. Nothing is guaranteed until you get that contract signed and it hits the league office.

I know this wasn't directed at me personally, I'm just saying I think the Bengals didn't handle things perfectly. I'm also saying those are the 2 we've lost in recent years that would've benefited us the most to keep. Roster turnover is going to happen. There's no way around it. However, everyone points to Whit's age as to why we offered a one year deal, but a lot of people were on board with signing Pacman to a multi-year deal.

As to hometown discounts, I don't believe in that. This is their job and they are free to make as much as they can. Same for me. If I have multiple job offers, more than likely I'm taking the highest offer. We all would. Professional athletes are no different.
