The move to Cooper is because he knows it better now. He's been in the system that long, but still doesn't climb the depth chart, stay with Malone and let him learn it week to week to see if he can climb the depth chart.
Or maybe just maybe they picked up Cooper because they thought he was the better player. Malone did ok in the preseason but still only made it to a practice squad
