House Speaker Ongoing Melodrama

They do make up the largest chunk of charitable donations after all at about 27% in 2022. It's also important to keep in mind that many of the things that rely on charitable contributions in this country are handled through the state in other countries. So in many countries there isn't as much need to charity as there is here. It's a double-edged sword.

It isn't. Our gap over 2nd place in charitable donations is so large that even when talking about GDP%, if you took out 27% of our number (I don't know if churches are counted in that number, but for the sake of it, lets say so) we'd still have a huge lead over 2nd place. We were nearly double second place.

So other countries they are forced to by law to give their money, while in this country we CHOOSE to give our money. If you have a choice in the matter and you're still making the choice to do so, that's considered a good thing. That money is normally used more effectively as well when it's more targeted and local.

It's okay to accept that there's some good in America and that most normal people would generally like to help people.

Money is great and all (YAY...Capitalism) but do we take care of each other or do we just give some money to charity and then ignore the problems that cause the need for the charity?

Just asking.

They averaged out % of people who gave money, % of people who volunteered time, and % of people who helped a stranger and the US is listed as 6th overall and 3rd of countries that actually have a bordering neighbor rather than being an island.

We get over-onlined and over-exposed by news which highlights all the bad to be divisive and drive "engagement". There's still a lot of people helping other people here, a lot of good people here.
