The motive was to have these clones for organ harvesting, allowing the originals to prolong life. Eventually, the elite thought, "Man, these kids are kind of just going to waste. Hey, so and so... you were kind of hot when you were young. Can I go hook up with your clone ?".
It's very out there, but nothing would surprise me anymore.

"Harvesting organs" is not a random thing to do. It's a very complex process.
