If you like progressive metal, Ayreon is worth checking out. It can come across a little cheesy, but it's very good. IMO at least.
Gabriel Era Genesis is great.
King Crimson is great and deserves more attention.
Anything Mike Patton does.
Can't believe I forgot Patton
He's probably the most underrated musician of a generation stuck with a one hit wonder label.
