Me too!  Marvin rarely allows rookies the ability to learn on the fly, fearing they'll blow assignments and hurt the overall concept of the play.  But I see that as no different that a lack of execution.  Both end with the same result.  I like Dansby and wish we had him in his prime, but it does look like his ship has sailed.  Age catches up with all of us sooner or later (thank god for Viagra!).
