Don't blame the defense
#1
D gift wrapped 3 turnovers in scoring territory for the offense. While offense made us take the field first and goal from the 9. Our specialteams on kick returns and punt returns have been so awful this year that it forces both the offense and defense to play at a top 10 level every week to compensate.

And yet no adjustment had been made to cover the RB coming out of the backfield. Or maybe that's not their responsibility?

Yes, Defense had 3 turnovers, but gave up over 500 yards to the Jets. They get plenty of blame, though I blame scheme for much of it.

The fumble they got was another example of busted coverage, no one even coming close to slot corner. Defense was Terrible.

WTF

We are middle of the pack in both PR (18th) and KR (19th).

Our average drive starts at our own 30.5 yard line.  That is fourth best in the league.

This is a joke, right? Don't blame the defense? Offense scored over 31 points which usually translates to a win and the defense gives up over 500 yards of total offense to the JETS including over 400 yards passing to unknown QB Mike White who had never thrown a pass in the NFL until last week and you want us to blame SPECIAL TEAMS for his loss?

For the love of god, tell me you're joking or at least trolling

Eli Apple is a liability hope Waynes comes back soon.  D played well enough to win. the 34 points they gave up is misleading though. especially when they gift wrapped 17 for the offense and offense caused them to give up 7.

The offense is incapable of moving the ball down the field without some miraculous big play that goes for 30+ yards

Eating clock? meticulous and methodical drives? Yea, doesn’t exist with this offense

The Defense gave the offense short fields. So D doesn't deserve any credit for giving the offense the ball in the redzone twice and a 3rd in FG range.

They still gave up 34 points. It’s not misleading. The offense did give away points. Maybe that turnover, but they gave up 34 points that’s not good to anyone let alone the Mike White Led Jets. Over 500 yards.

The offense was off, yes, but still scored 31 points, which is way better than the bad teams do on a good day. Why couldn't the defense keep the Jets below 20 points like they did the Ravens who are considered a playoff caliber team?

Mike White is the 2nd QB in NFL history to throw for over 400 yards in his 1st start? You think offense is to blame for that? Turnovers is the last indicator of a good defense. I’d rather have the defense that played the Ravens that had 0 turnovers than this one.

All that matters in the end is points. The defense gave the Jets the most points they had all year,

I’m not blaming the defense. I’m blaming Lou Anarumo for using the wrong defensive scheme and not adjusting when it didn’t work.

That was HUGE, and the fact we had 15 missed tackles.

The offense is almost just as much to blame here to be honest

No. Offense didn’t do them favors, but this loss is on the defense… see below.

Mike White had #nfl ’s 212th 400-yard passing game since 2006 but the only one averaging less that 3.73 air yards per attempt

That’s ON THE DEFENSE.

Both deserve blame. Bengals won the turnover battle and still lost. You have to turn that Jesse bates interception into points. The o-line gets no push on short yardage situations. That o-line unit is hampering what could be a top 5 offense

But yes, Lou anaroumo did the team no favors. Completely looking ahead to Cleveland

Yet they were responsible for 17 of the offenses points and the offense caused them to give up 7.  that's 24 points not on the defense. we only gave up 34. so out of the 31 we scored 14 was due to the offense and they gave 7 of that back. Offense only produced a net 7 points on their own.

As usual you are wildly exaggerating, but there is some truth to your comment.

Bengals are 18th in "Drive Success Rate" (results in at least 1 first down or TD) and 31st in "Plays per drive".

Many coaches believe "chunk plays" are a big key to winning, so we should not penalize the Bengals for being so good at them.  But at the same time it would be nice to be able to bleed some clock when we need to.
