Our last really good Center?

I might even have an old penny that may have been touched by someone moderately sport(ishly) important  previously!
never discount it. I might know people who might know people who might have known someone that could have known someone.. Shocked

Sad but true. The glory days of Rich Braham doesn't have much ring to it. LOL

He and Cook were "plus" centers and that's about it for good centers over the last 30 some odd years.

We've really struggled there, and our guards haven't been all that great either, tbh. If we draft a good one, we never resign him. Bobbie Williams was a cast off and we look back on him way more fondly than we rightfully should. Just like Braham.

The Price failure is hamstringing the Bengals big time presently.

Other than Jonah, I just don’t know that I trust Tobin drafting OL. Even in the 1st round. And as much as I like and respect Pollack, he was here when we picked both Price and Carman (jury still out on that one).

Truth.  Not sure I remember this correctly, but I think they were considering Adeniji as a Center as well.  I really think Smith will shine when given the chance at OT, but would like to see him get significant snaps in games they are comfortably leading.  Trey Hill scored something like a 5 in his few snaps in pass blocking against the Jets. Not going to hold just a few snaps against the guy, but not sure he has shown much.

It seems like offensive line, CB, and LB might be the big needs again going in to the draft.

How many years did Marvin start Ghiacuc over Cook? 3? I feel like Gut-Check was a big reason 2006-2008 were so frustrating

we signed him 2007 to practice squad...  He went to IR in 2008  and earned the starting spot in 2009

When we picked Price I felt he might have been a bit of a reach, but center was a big need.

Even if he never became a big star like you want from a first round pick I still assumed he would be a solid starter. I never thought he would be such a complete disaster.

What's funny is everyone says Price was a reach, and a bust (which he turned out to be) and another dumb move by our front office, but he did win the Remington Trophy for the best center in college football. And the center before him was Russell Bodine, so I'm not defending him by any means, but its not like he was some no name guy from some podunk college. Just another good college player that couldn't make it in the pros.

If the Bengals pick around the 15-20 range, I think they have a shot to snag him without trading up.
If they are picking in the 20's, they might have difficulty and need to trade up.
Heck, if you really want him and still picking in the 15-20 range, might be worth giving up a Day 3 pick to move up a spot or two to ensure you get him.

Anywhere in the teens and he’s worth the pick.

Just get out of the top 10. Trade down otherwise

Linderbaum doesn't fit everyone. He's listed at 6'3 290 but there alot of reports out there he could be smaller than that... He's not a guy that is going to be in a power or heavy inside zone scheme and even some wide zone teams will be turned off by his size/length.

Tyler Linderbaum is a well coached technically sound great college center but there are some big questions about he will fare against NFL competition. Garrett Bradbury/Jason Kelce are two excellent comparisons for Linderbaum. One is a struggling former 1st rounder and the other a All-Pro caliber 6th rounder lol.

I can see him either going high teens or sliding to the second round.

Yes I know he won't fit every team, but I'm not sure what other teams need a Center. It could end up like back in 2018 where a team jumps in front of the Bengals and takes the top C off the board (Ragnow). If you don't want that risk, you might want to not gamble and hope he falls to you.

Heck, even this offseason Mack was available again and signed for under $5m/yr. He's ranked as the 12th C so far.

Yes, that made it even worse, lol. This year they put their eggs in the Hopkins basket, and he's not the same player he was pre injury. Burned again!

Same, I wanted Ragnow more, but I thought we got a solid consolation prize. We didn't even get a gift bag out of it .....until the trade.

I did as well although the OSU folks outnumbered us on this board debate.

but didn't somebody trade up in front of us select Ragnow ?

Maybe I'm wrong in my recollection and am at work with no time to research

Yessir, Detroit snatched him from us. I don't recall if they traded up or not....we traded back with Buffalo and got Cordy Glenn. I thought we'd really pulled a fast one, lol. I can't remember if we traded down before or after Ragnow was picked.
