Threads from the Enemy week 9: Browns
#21
Was hoping OBJ would play, the numbers of win/losses these guys have without him to with him are not coincidence.

Dude is a cancer it seems. A WR should never demand targets, takes away from Offenses everytime.

But I think we can still pull off a win. We should be fired up after that loss to the Jets and wanting to continue winning
at Home and in the AFC North. We played the Stains tough both games last year and we were terrible in the trenches
and in every other aspect but ST's. We are a much better team this year, the Stains? I don't know about them being
any better and some might say they are worse.

Combine that with the huge distraction he (and now his family) are creating and the fact that he's only played 16 games in 2 out of 18 years? Dude's not worth it. Addition by subtraction.

To back this up, since OBJ arrived in Cleveland, he ranks 114th out of 153 WRs in EPA per play. Last season, through the first seven games, here was Baker's numbers...

19th in EPA per play
22nd in YPA
14th in Success Rate
4th in TD%
4th in INT% (read this as a high INT%, so throwing a lot of picks)
17th in adjusted passer rating

After week 7, or when OBJ got hurt...

8th in EPA per play
12th in YPA
7th in success rate
26th in TD%
37th in INT% (read this as super low, barely throwing picks)
11th in adjusted passer rating

One thing that could explain Baker's drastic drop in TD% was that the teams rushing TD % skyrocketed after OBJ got hurt. The Browns love to run the ball, and they were 20th in rushing TD% while OBJ was on the field. After OBJ got hurt, they were 8th in rushing TD%, suggesting that Baker was getting them down there and the RBs were finishing it off.

I am not defending him and saying he is good and haven't delved into the issue but I know he has the vertical threat role in that offense. You can attribute the poor outcomes between him and Baker. He has been a horrible distraction and I am shocked the Browns did not move him.

Sign ‘em???

I am half joking. I wouldn’t be opposed though. More toys for Joe is never bad. Not even that one. He’d probably love the opportunity to stay in the division to stick it to Cleveland.

Highly doubt it’ll happen. That’s okay.

Gonna be a tough game. Bengals coming off a loss to the Jets, Browns coming off a loss to Pissburgh. Home field may make the difference..... well that, and a pissed off Burrow. I've never seen him as mad as he was on the sideline last week.
