So Marvin Jones couldn't lead to a 12th comp in the 3rd? I'm happy to have picks but with that many given in that round I was expecting one of them or at least two 4ths with what he and Sanu were paid and did.

If a team loses a player to free agency (especially by choice), then why should it be rewarded with a draft pick if it chooses not to replace the player with another comparable FA, or decides to replace them in the draft instead of pursuing a FA?

If he was so good they would have kept him.
He was quite good for the Bucs...but while his contract was a 6 year contract. It was structured so most of the money was in base salary. Essentially he signed 6, 1 year contracts. Revis also had an ACL injury when he was traded to the Bucs and still made the Pro Bowl.
Cliff Avril was one of the most sought after DE's on the market that year. Avril signed a 2 year $15 million deal with Seattle. Hardly dumpster diving. Prior to that he had 39.5 sacks and 16 forced fumbles in 5 years for the Lions.
You're using a strawman argument where you downplay how good free agents other teams sign and overrate how good ones the Bengals sign are. The Bengals don't sign 1st tier, 2nd tier, or even 3rd tier free agents. The guys they sign are 4th tier and below.

Cliff Avril's first contract with Seattle was 2 years, 13 million. Hardly cheap.
Revis got a 10 million dollar signing bonus from the Patriots. That is one expensive dumpster.
Michael Bennett has only played for Seattle. He was an undrafted free agent.
If you're gonna be so rude, at least you can be correct.

Here is a question for you guys. If no other team in the league lets there good players leave in free agency then how would there be ant good free agents available for the Bengals to sign? Seems to me that the Bengals spend as much to keep their top players as every other team in the league.

Meaning our original 4th round pick is more like pick 20 then pick 9 of the fourth round. Kinda crazy to think how far we fell in the 4th round thanks to the extra 11 3rd round picks awarded.
Now I wonder how important it was to not sign free agents to try to get comp picks. I'd rather have the free agents if we can't even get a 3rd after all we lost and didn't replace.
And in an even more of a blow. CLE, BAL, PIT all got extra 3rd round picks.

But at least you will not blame Marvin for losing because he was never given the talent he needed, correct? I mean you can't possibly rip Marvin for not being able to win with a loaded roster if you admit that the front office's refusal to sign top quality talent is the problem, right?

Like McC says no one is asking for the Bengals to go sign the 4 highest priced FA's out there, that never works. What we want is for the Bengals to plug a few holes with quality FA's and/or resign the cream. They drafted a guard in the 1st round for the first time ever and all indications are they're letting him go = MB being cheap.
They'll retain guys like Mauagula and Peko = MB being cheap. They'll sign twilight of their career guys like Dansby and Hawk = MB being cheap.
This team needs to much to just sign the bargain basement FA's and "build thru the draft" If this core of good players is going to have a chance the time is now - period !
We need a couple pieces now, whether its a center and LBer. DE and LT ?? But standing pat with this O-line and LBer's/DE's and our core is gonna start splitting up and it will truly be rebuild time again. WAY sooner than later.
