My company holiday party is always a luncheon on Christmas Eve, or the Friday before if it is a Saturday or Sunday. A couple of years ago one of our electricians was there for the first time and got absolutely blitzed. The next time I saw him I asked how bad his head hurt Christmas morning. He replied that he got home and passed out, COMPLETELY sleeping through his inlaws coming over for dinner and to exchange gifts. He said his wife didn't speak to him for three days!
