In many ways, Indy cars are designed to disperse at the point of impact, taking the force away from the driver. Unfortunately, these pieces can end up in other places, and Indy driver Justin Wilson, appears to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It's baffling that people still do this. Death on the racetrack is far too common.

Hopefully, this guy can recover from his injuries.
