This is a “Whoa Nelly!” trade for me. Unload Homer and only have to give up Downs and Gray? Yes please. Wood has the stuff to be an ace if he can stay healthy.
I also liked that Dick Williams said they aren’t done yet. Could Kluber still be in play?

Isn't a "one year phenomenon" what the Reds chose to pay Homer on? When you look at Wood's career stats, 2017 was a bit of an anomaly. Seems like he's traditionally a .500 type of pitcher, with a respectable mid 3s ERA.

Now, when you look at his career, nothing in there says "Ace" to me, but he is definitely an upgrade to the current rotation.

Records aren’t really important anymore when gauging a pitcher’s ability, just look at DeGrom winning the Cy Young. Wood has the stuff to be an ace, plus fastball, plus change-up and an average knuckle-curve. An era in the 3’s is great in this current homer happy version of baseball. He also doesn’t walk guys or give up many homeruns and has a career WAR of 12.5
Now, none of that makes him Kershaw/Kluber/Verlander level of pitcher, but he can be a #1 top of the staff guy. FWIW I still want the team to trade for Kluber.
The dodgers will release Homer Bailey. I still think the Reds will get another starter pitcher in Dallas K.
So where does Matt Kemp play. Quick check, he's actually won 2 gold gloves in outfield, at least one in center years back. I'm guessing he is a left fielder, but with Puig in right, is Winker's role reduced.
I wonder how much of Bailey's contract the Reds are paying ?

My guess is that Winker and Schebler share the CF duties.

None. Dodgers got Bailey and his contract.

And the Reds got 3 big contracts to pay this year, none of which they'll be likely to re-sign and make long term members of the team.

Red's get 7 million from the Dodgers in this deal. The Dodgers clear about 10 Million under luxury tax to sign probably Harper, that is my take.

The Reds may choose to sign Alex Wood and Puig to long-term contracts if they remain healthy or play well. Wood is in the last year of his Arbitration and Puig really loves Turner, which i predicted in another thread.
Watch Homer win 20 games this year with the Dodgers. And our 3 stars will sit the bench with injuries. That's baseball for ya.

Bailey agreed to waive his 10 and 5 rights only if he was immediately released after the trade so he's actually a free agent now.
Vitro Puig Kemp Suarez Skooter this offense will be loaded

I wonder if the team will try to flip Kemp in a deal? I’m pretty sure they want to keep Wood, due to obvious reasons and Puig, due to his friendship with the new hitting coach. Kemp is a good trade chip, one year deal, can play all the outfield spots and still seems to have a little juice left in the bat.
This trade blows my mind, wasn’t expecting this kind of shakeup. I do look for Kemp to be traded before the season starts. I’m excited that moves have been made!
