I've seen Dalton play this well before, just not for this long. Still waiting for the playoffs. I'll take this though, its fun, but I'm still guarded.

If you're going to say that he "was never a bottom 10 guy", then don't say that he's a "top 5 guy" now.  He's certainly performing like one, and that's exactly what I'd call it, but if we can't call last year for what it was, then why would we do so for these last 5 games.

There are 32 starting QBs in the league.  I've never thought Dalton was in the bottom half of them.

Otherwise, why not just do away with his ratings and just sort the stats from top to bottom.

Because if you go year by year a 87.3 passer rating is average. 

2014 he was 25th
2013 (the big year every talks about) he was 15th
2012 he was 13th
2011 he was 20th

Does that seem average to you?

I realize Dalton and Palmer are both on hot streaks, but seeing them both rated so highly fits my world view of Marvin Lewis being unable to make the most out of the talent he's been given.

Not when you look at it over the course of a career.  Otherwise, all the QBs below him would be "average" as well.

You should probably take a gander at his 2014 season if you didn't happen to catch it.  Definitely a "bottom 10" performance.

I'm not judging my view of Dalton on one season.

Seems pretty good considering the weapons he has had.

2011 - A.J. Green as a rookie was his only good receiving weapon, and he didn't have a good run game
2012 - Same as 2011
2013 - He started to get more weapons this year, but they were all very inexperienced and made big mistakes that resulted in Dalton looking worse than what he is (Damn, sounds like a familiar argument that I used to make), and he still didn't have a good run game
2014 - All of his receiving weapons were hurt, but he finally started to get a good run game ~half way through the season
2015 - everyone is healthy, and Dalton is playing the way I expected him to

Dalton's 87.3 career passer rating ranks 10th among active QB's.

2012 - excuses
2013 - excuses
2014 - excuses
2015 - Dalton is looking great! I attribute all of the team's success to one guy even though if the other guys weren't there, we'd be left with more excuses.

Cool.  A completion percentage is great and all, but when you still end up with the 25th ranked passer rating, 19 TDs and 17 INTs, you've had what sane people call a "bottom 10 guy year".

Look at the 2013 seasons that Flacco and Eli had.

Definitely bottom 10. Of course, most people were objective enough to see that they were really hurting at receiver. They both rebounded in '14 with improvements at receiver.

Yes, but we're also talking about a list of QB's ranked.  We could just say it's impossible to rank them since some guys have HOF-level WRs and some of them are throwing to bums.  Where do you think Josh McCown should be ranked on that list given his performance and his weapons?

Just make sure you attribute the rest of the team to his performance this year.  You wouldn't want to look uneven and biased.  Like I said to someone else earlier: You can't have your cake and eat it too.  Pick a stance and stick with it.

Me? I'll be realistic about the whole issue and place the blame and/or credit with the people who deserve it, rather than making excuses.

Andy Dalton had a bottom 10 QB season in 2014.  Get over it.
Andy Dalton is having a top 3 QB season so far in 2015.  You should be happy now....
