So yeah still a terrible signing, but numbers aren't bad considering its a low-risk high reward contract. Basically makes him a cheap starter and highly paid backup.
putting this outside the main thread for those who don't want to read 20 pages of complaints.
Three years $16.15 million.
Where did the $21 million number come from?

Possible total earnings with escalators

what this tells me is they will draft an OT or multiple this year they can shed this contract next year with all guaranteed paid this year.

Actually think that is a pretty smart contract. I also agree that OL in the first 2 days of the draft is still in play.

The Preston Brown signing is the same we dont know the numbers yet but its 3 years 21 mil with incentives and escalators...
not gonna lie I feel a lot better about this signing considering how thin we are at tackle. Yes, he sucks, but I could also see them making a play for another guy in free agency. I expect them to also front load a contract for Tyler Boyd this offseason while restructuring AJ Green to 3 or 4 more years.
You mean to say people were overreacting here? NO WAY.

Appears to me that all the bonus money listed in the notes is already accounted for in the contract details.
I am not trying to argue here. I am just trying to get an understanding of what is going on.
Damn, I came here to hear more front office bashing and moaning about how the new staff is a bunch of losers, and you ruined it...….. just ruined it......

Yeah, not too bad, thanks for the research.

They aren't listed until they hit them and they are usually things like bonuses for making the playoffs etc. Andre Smith had them about weight lol.

" Bobby Hart signed a three year, $16.15 million contract with the Bengals. Hart received $5.5 million in guarantees which includes a $3 million signing bonus. $500,000 per year is tied toward per game bonuses. There are an additional $5 million in incentives based on performance."
A "playtime escalator" sounds like something little girls should have in a dollhouse.

looks like a great contract with the details released on the teams side... Mostly incentive base and we can cut bait with little loss next year if we choose.

Dalton has them for playoff wins.
eifert had them for playing time... They are used all the time.
Only down side is you have to keep that $ available in the case they earn it... but if they don't it rolls over.

Some of these grown men do behave, and play, like little girls. Maybe that's where the language came from.
In all seriousness, it's too bad the team doesn't release all the details of contracts at the time of the announcement so that people can understand what they mean by $7M per year for a player.
