Sometimes, most humans have to do something really stupid and wrong to actually learn a lesson.
This includes me for sure. I can cite more than a few examples.
Mixon appears to have learned his lesson after doing a completely horrible thing.
Unless he screws up again doing something similar, give the kid a break.
Same with Walton.
