This was a guy they could approach pre Monday and try to work something out before the big time action started. Not a bad move as long as he is signed for a depth piece.

No worries, in years past this is exactly the type of move you'd see day 1 of FA from this team. Avoid the top guys and sign depth guys.
Hopefully last year was the start of a new trend of being more active.
Watched this guy a lot, he is a good player, I would sign him. He hasn't been great the last couple of years but he is solid.
Good depth at the very least, you never know he could get back to his pro bowl form here...
