Ever made a meal out of a pre-packaged pack of mac and cheese plus a few other ingredients?
My youngest daughter went through a phase where Mac and cheese was one of the few things she would eat. I had a bunch of boxes stocked in my pantry when she suddenly decided that she did not like it that much any more. I usually didn't fix mac and cheese for myself, but since I had so much I started experimenting. Here are some of the things I tried
diced ham or chicken
frozen broccoli or peas and carrots
salsa and breakfast sausage
Basically anything I happened to have. It reminded me of my college days whe I would just scrape together whatever i could find to make a meal.
