Yeah, Higbee has become a big part of this offense, need him back soon.....

playing Sample looks way slower. Wilcox has been a blocker and not featured as a pass catching TE at all so this might be
the first time we see him used this way. We will see.
I think so too, there is a reason we didn't bring in a player like Ebron off the street.

Offensive snaps - 406
Blocking snaps - 248 (61%)
So yes he's been used more as a blocker, but it isn't like he isn't going out for routes at all.

Not trying to dive into draft talk with #Bengals in the middle of the playoff race, but this is notable depending on what happens with Hurst/Sample in free agency and this team’s history drafting TEs high. https://t.co/zktki1Ysv5

He wasn't an overly great receiver in college, and he really hasn't done anything as a receiver in the NFL to-date.
10 rec for 76 yards in 27 games.
And for those curious, Wilcox has 387 offensive snaps in the NFL. So it's not like he hasn't had some opportunity.
It's more that he's extremely slow (4.88 40 time). He got a 2.40 RAS athletic score coming out of college.
He's probably never going to even be Sample-level...personal opinion anyway.

Think he will play in the pros for a long time and pay dividends for the Bengals immediately.

I'm kind of in the state of mind that next man up will work in this offense with other high-level players on the same field.
Sample being the outlier of course.
He was used more as a blocker but didn't really do a whole lot when the opportunity was given as a receiver.
Let's just sit back and see what Wilcox can actually do before debating his worth.

If people are mainly just talking as a blocker, that's ok, but it kind of limits his ceiling in the NFL and makes it more predictable what the team will do if/when he's in.
If he ends up proving wrong then great, but he hasn't really trended that way yet through his almost 3 seasons out of college.

I need some time of numerical statistic that would be equated to paying dividends.
You talking getting 400+ yards in a season?
2000+ receiving yards while being a Bengal?
6+ TDs in a season?

Only 12 caught more than 400 yds as well and with Chase Higgins. and Boyd being the main targets I will say probably not unless Hurst leaves and he becomes the feature TE.
If he plays his entire career as a Bengals could certainly see 2,000 plus yard though.
But I am saying that he will do his job and not cost the Bengals any games per boneheaded plays and contribute during this crucial part of the season when every game is paramount. Which I would call paying dividends.
