Nope, think it was just a spontaneous BS alibi spewed forth from his mouth.

(04-08-2023, 10:35 AM)Go Cards Wrote: [ -> ]Let's just take out the criminal charges and look at his production
If you take out the games he missed he played 17 games including the playoffs
Mixon rushed for less than 50 yards in 8 of these games, nearly half he failed to reach 50 yards
Mixon rushed for 27 yards or less in 6 of these games. Let that sink in, over a third of the games he did not rush for over 27 yards
Mixon rushed for 65 yards or less in 12 of those games. 12 out of 17
Mixon had only 2 games where he broke the 100 yard barrier rushing, so less than 12% of his games played he achieved this goal
Add to the equation that defenses were not stacking the box to stop the run, but were solely geared toward stopping the Bengals receivers.
Mixon scored 10 TD's on 317 touches
Perine scored 7 TD's.. on 155 touches
Boyd.. scored 5 TD's.. on 58 touches
He is just not earning his $12.7 million a year regardless of the thuggish publicity he brings to the table. That's not even factoring that he can't block his way out of a saturated paper sack.
Now do expect him to run much better in a contract year but high paid RB's need to produce year in and year out.
<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>There were 33 RBs that saw 150+ carries last season. Of them all, Joe Mixon ranked (overall, not just light boxes):
— Andrew Russell (@Andrew_Russell7) April 7, 2023
Missed tackles forced per attempt: 32nd
Yards per carry: 30th
Yards after contact per attempt: 30th
Explosive runs: 19th https://t.co/5dONdgOgYW

I think RB is in the cards with or without Mixon and there isn't a reason to spend a high pick on one. KC found a gem in round 7. There is talent at RB in round 3, 4, and beyond.
Just might be more interesting in trading pick 28 now and sliding into the top of round 2 and getting an extra pick, unless they can trade Jonah for that round 3 pick.

Mixon has been facing light boxes because of the focus on the excellent Bengals top-3 receivers. But he still ranks near the bottom on the league in important RB statistical categories. It seems a waste for the Bengals to lack a RB that can exploit those light boxes.

Many of you seem to think he's easily replaceable, and he might be, but they aren't going to just cut him and go with that hole into the draft. (barring legalities that is). To me it seemed like the plan was to draft someone this year and let them get up to speed and see if they can handle being the stater for 2024.
Also not sure why you don't think the coaches are well aware of his stats and analytics and what he brings to the team.. that's kinda like their effing job??

I say no, I say he either takes a pay cut or we look for another RB in the draft or FA.
His production does not equate to a huge contract for a RB in my humble opinion.

And, I'm betting there's a run on QBs in the 1st round, so we may get a stud at RB. Robinson would be a huge get. If he's there, we take him, no question. He probably won't be. But, I would be OK with Gibbs or Charbonnet, too. Cris Evans and Trayveon are still here, too.
I liked Perrine....a lot. But, although the Bengals did try to keep him, he was never going to be in a larger role in this offense. I don't blame him bolting for a larger role.
I wish Joe Mixon well. I never got the feeling he was Zac's guy. Now, there's an opportunity to move on from him. That said, if Mixon agrees to a huge pay cut, the Bengals might have to reconsider. There are a lot of big name RB FAs still floating around out there. Not all of them are going to be big money contracts.

He’s not lacking in the physical abilities to pass block or the desire to protect Joe. He wants to excel. He’s just not very good at it.
He just can’t get out of his own way.
