Always prefer to play with a lead in the 2nd half. Odds of doing that increase if you start off the game on offense. Sometimes you can overthink this.
Score first and score often. That's a recipe for success.
Put the other team on their heals coming out of the chute.
For the longest time I've been on the defer side.
I like getting the ball at the half and having the chance to score at the end of half and start of half.
With losing our safeties and our offense becoming our strength, it makes sense to try to jump on teams early.

But I also think it depends.
If we play an elite defense maybe it makes sense to play it safe and defer to the half.
I also think our defense could do well this year--especially later in the year as players fit into their roles on the back end, and hopefully the defense stays healthy.
