If you put stock in PFF he's been very mediocre against the run this year. The Lions were already the 2nd rushing defense last year and now they're 4th.
There's a big difference between being expected to be the 2nd best player on a defense and just being a part. Reader hasn't made a tackle either solo or assisted in 3 weeks.

That said, he isn't a pass rusher. And he only played a fraction of the snaps. But, upgrade to what we have now.

This is up there with not wanting to pay Bates top-tier safety money for his inconsistent play, but also not wanting Nick Scott as a starting S. If we could just operate like an actual franchise we wouldn't have to choose between overpaying guys with red flags or being stuck with dumpster fire players instead. There IS some middle ground there! Lol
