I do not disagree that keeping Hudson over McLachlan is a move our staff and personnel department would make.  I just dont like it.  Hudson has caught some passes, has zero YAC, doesnt block, and is much older.  

Some posters think the guy is Kelce with his 39 catches for less than a 10 yd average.  His future is this season and maybe next with the Bengals.

The only TE in the Zac Taylor era to have 10+ YPR has been Uzomah, and only at 10.1 YPR.
Hudson had higher YPR than Hayden Hurst, Irv Smith, and Drew Sample.
So he's about the equivalent of a low-end starter.

If McLachlan can perform about as well as Hudson, I agree to go with the guy on a 6th round draft pick contract and 4 years under contract.
But I do think there's value to have a guy who could potentially start if the starter is injured/underperforms and do ok like Hudson did.

On a different topic, I read 2 interesting guys may get cut in Green Bay. A.J. Dillon and Dillard. Dilliard has NFL experience, former 1st round pick, but has been bad thus far. A.J. Dillon is a 28-year bruising RB.

I mention these 2 guys as examples of players from other teams who may get cut.

I like Dillon, I think he would add another dimension to our RB room.

Who knows who gets cut soon? But it always seems some good vets hit the market before week #1.

does not block ??, how do you know that, last year was the most time he had on the field ever and i have not found any article that says he was terrible, i actually found this article that said he was blocking well.   Also i like to know what he finished last year in run blocking, though a small sample but the first two games he played, he was top run blocking TE in those two games.    Do I think he is  a great blocker, doubtful but his play does not seem to fit your analysis .

If McLachlan is simply close to Hudson I keep the rook.    If we didn't have Gesicki I wouldnt be so adamant, but we do and I know for a fact that they really, really like All.  Hudson & McLachlan are likely in competition for TE4, go with the youth over the 30 yr old career PS guy.  

Just my opinion.

Well his own position coach complained about it during an interview with Lapham.  He is not a good blocker.  But you are a great analyst with your Gunter over Ossai takes and other doozies, so believe what you want.

Dillon would be a good player to have on the cheap for situational use. However, he really doesn't fit the dynamic athlete mold that the Bengals seem to be looking for in RBs these days.

Dillion for short yardage and goal line wouldn't be a terrible idea.

When someone gets cut,any team cannot just grab that player.They have to clear wavers.There is a pecking order.The worst teams get first chance to claim them.I believe it is the same order as the draft.So just because someone gets cut,there is no guarantee,he will still be available,for the Bengals to claim.

The way around that is by offering the team rumored to be releasing that player a novel draft pick in trade. The problem lies in that Dillon is due $2.5M, and I can't see the Bengals picking up a situational RB and paying him $2.5M, especially when there are other needs to consider before RB.

Yep, but considering that the team finished slightly closer to the back of the field than the front they have a higher probability of successfully claiming players off of waivers.

AJ Dillon is on his second contract so he is not subject to waivers if cut.

Depends on how long they've been in the league

As to a possible cut candidate; I'll look down at MIA and see if they keep 4 or release Jeff Wilson Jr.

I agree and why I said we may be able to look at cuts. Any bet on 2nd contract is free agent immediately.


Miami actually has 5 solid running backs now. They drafted Jaylen Wright.

I agree, if it's close.
I would like to see Gesicki in a PS game to just see if he's really that much better than Hudson, All, and McLachlan.

I'll trust whatever the Bengals end up deciding for TE, but I did like what I saw from Hudson last year. He was about the smoothest moving TE I remember seeing as a Bengal in the Taylor era. I think he could have put up 500+ if he had been the primary TE the entire year.

This is how I feel about McLachlan, he is faster and just a better athlete, he moves very well with the ball in his hands.
