Because the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, etc guys are still there.
You need to replace the below-average bats with above-average bats. Replacing an above-average bat with a more above-average bat while keeping the below-average bats moves the needle even less.

I view it as we gave up an average, at best, bat for a below average arm. Close to an even deal. The Reds seems to have injury after injury, and it's a trend in the game, with the rotation so at least there is more depth.
I am skeptical the middle IFs will stay healthy or pan out so the Reds could very much be down an IF'er by losing India.
Keeping India or not though doesn't do much to move the franchise toward success.

That's an upgrade.
I didn't even think about Ash, who can be another long reliever and spot starter as needed.
My prediction:
Greene
Martinez
Singer
Abbott
Lodolo (they'll want a lefty)
Lowder
Ashcraft

I thought that I read about the Reds being likely to sign a player from the Diamondbacks? Can't remember the name, but what I was reading was making him out to be a decent bat.

Walker, Pederson, or our boy Suarez?

Without seeing the first name, it's hard to guess. Was definitely a Latino name.

Well Suarez isn't a FA, and Walker and Pederson aren't Latino.
Could it have been Dodgers OF Teoscar Hernandez by chance?
He's been mentioned a lot as a Reds target.
Also Orioles OF Anthony Santander.
Either of those dudes would be about as big of an upgrade to the Reds as we could hope for when it comes to realistic cost.
I wonder what the betting line for a Lodolo injury is... 2 games into the season or 3?..

I'd be surprised if he makes it through camp. If he manages to pitch 20 plus games, it will be a miracle.
