All time SB leader passes at 65.
I saw the title and said "Hell no". Dude was one of the All-Time greats
Wow, so young. When he'd get on base they'd cut in to whatever game was being broadcast just to see what he'd do.
Just an absolute legend. Rest easy Rickey
Every time that I have heard his name since the mid 80s, I think of an old high school baseball teammate who is probably crushed right now. He was by far and away the biggest fan of Rickey Henderson that I have ever met. He had every card of Rickey's on display in his room, multiple posters and paid extra money to get #24. Our roster was a limit of 18 and our numbers were #1 through #18 so he asked the coaches if he could alter his #4. They said no but he could buy a blank jersey and pay to have the numbers added so he did.

Kind of odd timing as I saw this funny Will Clark/Rickey Henderson story about three days ago.

One of the comments in that link has probably my favorite Rickey quote

"Rickey don't care about no John hitting 3:16 . . . Rickey hitting .320"

Rest In Peace, Rickey. Thanks for the many memories.
One of the best players of my youth. RIP
People throw around "best to ever do it" a lot. For Rickey, it was absolutely true in several categories.

My first foray into fantasy sports was baseball in the early 90's. I always knew he was great, but the dude just seems to rack up points in every offensive category every single day. Probably could have been a legit power hitter if he chose that role.
My favorite player of all-time and best leadoff hitter of all-time.

I played catcher and shortstop, but my true love was running the bases after a hit or stealing bases like Rickey used to do.

Something about running the bases and stealing bags, especially since I was fast, made me love just watching him play.

He has almost five hundred more stolen bases than the guy with the second-most!

RIP to the GOAT of leadoff hitters and base stealers!
Somehow I completely missed this. Sad news for sure and Henderson was fun to watch and had a pretty quirky personality.
