Of course, Burfict had microfracture surgery to his knee. That surgery is known to be a career shortener.

Don't hate or love Pratt and think there are bigger issues if they choose to retain him, but a fine moving on as well. Don't think he makes or breaks the defense and if an upgrade can be had then it would be foolish not to entertain the opportunity. If not a clear upgrade can be had then am fine rolling with him again but would not want to give him any long term commitment at all.
To me he showed bad character after the KC playoff loss and I found it odd he was named a Captain because of that tirade. Plus him not really being a leader on the field either, just never got that but the defense has been horrid all season so it was slim pickings for Captain I reckon.
For what its worth I was a big Wilson fan but he seems to be the next Tyler Eifert.
Guess I am just on the fence with Pratt
BJ Hill should have been one the captains on defense, imo.
I don't hate Pratt and can see justifying keeping him around. My main issue with him is that he seems to get ballcarriers in dead-to-rights situations, only to have them wiggle away and chew up more yards. It's a theme on this defense, but he sticks out for whatever reason. I know they want to live off of turnovers, but JFC just get the guy on the ground.
Perhaps Germaine just sticks out because he's in position to make more plays.
Unfortunately for him, he's emblematic of cumulative problems on that side of the ball. Not physical enough. Too cute. Bad communication.
Also, like most issues on the defense, an improved pass rush would probably cover a lot of GP's blemishes.
He's poor in space and misses a lot of Tackles.

Funny, either it updated shortly after my posting it or I need glasses!
I remember when we drafted Takeo Spikes and Brian Simmons 1 and 2 in '98. Both turned out to be good picks, albeit Takeo more short lived here.
Bottom line, I'm open to looking at improvement at all areas on defense come draft time.

Whenever I look at "cost-saving" measures a name always mentioned is Germaine Pratt.
Whenever someone is mad at a player about a game Germaine Pratt is often mentioned
All the dude does is show up and do his job. In a 6-year career, he has missed 2 games. We ask a lot of our LB only playing 2. Depending on alignment, we ask him to be a Will, Sam, or Mike.
His sidekick asked to do the same cannot stay on the field
Like the rest of the D, he's not having his best year, but he's only 28 and has had a fine career.
What i see good about Pratt is this year he has the highest tackle rate per snaps over past three seasons. I stated i like to see him trim down and work on a bit more agility training in offseason to help with better positioning to finish tackles and i feel he is playing fine for his contract..

He seems to be there when great things happen and when poor things happen. Real participation trophy player. Not close to being the worst defender on the team, but he still needs to grab the Persil when Trey needs his laundry done. He buys into this new generation of talking a bunch, but he ends up looking foolish afterwards.

Hindsight is always clear.
I think our LBs look worse without good DTs...and that's just how the nfl is.

Bates was so average here many games. Atlanta may be a better fit for him.

Yes, which is why Ray Lewis pounded the table for drafting Ngata.
The rest is history, from which the Brown family refuses to learn...

Even when he was not playing up to his potential physically, our secondary was much better overall with him in the lineup.
At the time I was nonplussed by his seeming lack of effort. Now it is clear that this was not all there was to his game. He was able to play Anarumos magic morphing game, and make it work. Not seeing it from this bunch.

Being fair, he's had a couple of missed tackles that have turned into big gains the past couple of months, but yeah, the hate isn't justified. On the other side of that coin, he's had some huge "clutch" plays.
Is he Ray Lewis? No. Is he a solid starter? Yes.

He was average most of the time. Had a great game here and there.
The problem is, the guys they replaced him with are way below average. And when Bates played great...these guys don't have that gear.

Yes. Even at Bates worst which was an average safety, he was light years ahead of the guys they replaced him with.
