Problem is, Bodine is clearly beat on that play, and while you could argue Jeremy needs to beat one guy to have a big gain, that one guy is on top of him as soon as he gets the hand-off.

The OL did it's job. Hewitt got his ass handed to him. 
The OL created two ways for the RB to go. Hewitt screwed up and cost a big gain or TD

Why wouldn't I?  Bodine gets smoked, Hewitt is not playing as well as he was last season, and all of our lineman that didn't need coached up (read upper tier talent at their position) played well, save for a few missed assignments.  Even so, no push on 4th and 1 is pretty lame for a group this talented.

Because 4 of the 5 OL weren't that bad. In fact, they may have even been good.

Actually 4th and 1 came down to the FB getting stuffed in the hole. But shhhhhhh.

And yes they did need coached up. Andrew Whitworth being the prime example of that, Boling as well. 


Bodine sucks. Everyone (well almost everyone) knows this. This is the only argument you have.

Boling was widely regarded as one of the top guard prospects in his draft.  Whit was an early rounder. There were more plays than just the 4th and 1.

The point is, PA is stale, was a part of one of the worst decades in all of professional sports.  Most teams would have shitcanned the whole staff after that debacle, but not us.  If he is good enough to retain after that fiasco, then he should be able to coach up his hand selected project.  Simple as that.

it all goes together.. been numerous times when our RBs did not run well and when our line did not block well... I actually like our chances a bit better if Denver blitz a lot.. I think Gio can have a big game on screens and draws.

Boling was a 4th round T/G prospect. 
He was ranked anywhere from the 2nd to 7th G prospect in most cases. He needed a lot of coaching.

You should really read up on what people thought of Andrew Whitworth before and after the draft.
Hell, you still have people here who want him at LG. He was doomed to be a RT or G in the NFL out of college.
Now, he's a top 3 LT in the NFL for the last 4+ years. No coaching there....

The argument is run blocking in general.  Hewitt is part of that.

Those two pictures aren't even from the same play.

Cook just looked good cause we were used to Guycheck. Many of us would have looked good after Guycheck got abused for those post Braham years.

Now, he's a top 3 LT in the NFL for the last 4+ years. No coaching there....

Here's about all I need to know about Whitworth.....

As a redshirt freshman he started every game, and was a first-team Freshman All-American. As a sophomore in 2003, he started all 14 games.  He led the team with 1008 snaps and credited with 105 key blocks, including 82 knockdowns.  Then he moved to LT in 2005. He played every offensive snap in nine of the 13 contests, for an offense that averaged 374.1 yards per game. By not allowing a sack all season, he finished his career with 22 straight games of no sacks allowed. He was credited with 104 key blocks/knockdowns.

His 52 career starts from 2002-05 rank second in NCAA Division I history. He earned All-Southeastern Conference first-team honors in each of his last two seasons, including a consensus nod as a senior.


I mean, hell, *I* could "coach up" a guy like this, and I haven't sniffed a football field in almost 20 years!


Boling was a first team PFW All American going into the draft, and considered a top prospect at guard.
