I would love to see him back with the team in some capacity. A coach or maybe Dir of Community Outreach.
Sam was so vital to the locker room culture change from Marvin to Zac. His leadership and presence will be missed.
His next step is getting married next month. They live in Arizona during the off season because of her job. It will be interesting to see if that changes now that he is retired

Quote:"Sam always has been and always will be a wonderful part of the Bengals organization and the entire Cincinnati community," said Bengals president Mike Brown. "Growing up here, he was a top youth athlete on local gridirons and lacrosse fields before becoming a standout football player at Ohio State. We were fortunate to draft him in 2018, and we immediately knew that we added an outstanding player and an even better person to our team.
"Sam epitomizes what you want in a player — he's a great teammate, a talented athlete and a passionate community member. He helped us win a lot of football games, and he had a number of very memorable plays over the years. His 98-yard fumble recovery return in the Wild Card win over Baltimore is one of the most iconic touchdowns in team history. It has been my honor to watch him play his entire NFL career for his hometown team. We thank him for the memories he created as 'Cincinnati's Own.'"
Quote:"Sam is the definition of what it means to be a professional, and I will always be grateful for the role he played as a leader for our team," said Bengals head coach Zac Taylor. "Sam brought a championship mindset to work every single day with his dedication, commitment and passion for the game. He has proven to be a winner at every level of his career and helped get the most out of his teammates. Sam embraced his Cincinnati roots and created a lasting legacy on and off the field. I am certain he will continue to find success with everything the future brings for him."

Sometimes you just have to make a health over money choice, so I wish Sam good health.

One of my favourite players ever, really enjoyed the solid play throughout: he was our best modern day run stopping DE after John Copeland and we will always remember the Ravens playoff game.
Really hope he sticks around the team in some capacity: maybe not this year, but in the next few.
And now I need a new white jersey!
Ditto to all you've said!
I was holding out hope he would get healthy and rework his deal to stay here and rebound, but I guess that isn't in the cards...

Just heard the news, such a shame that injuries has caused his retirement at a fairly young age.
Pitty we couldn't get him a ring

When I saw the thread title, I said out loud "The Hubbard Yard Dash"
Best case scenario for all involved. One of the best run defending DEs that the Bengals have had.
Thanks for everything, Sam.

Best of luck to Sam. Former Bengals have good luck turning to broadcasting.

Thanks for everything Sam and good luck moving forward. He must have known his body just wasn't fit for another NFL season. Happy he went out without getting cut.

Does he still get the guaranteed/dead money if he's retiring? Not sure how that shakes out.
He will keep the dead cap money he was already paid. If the Bengals had cut him he would have kept the money anyway so with him retiring the Bengals will let him keep it.

I still get pissed and cringe at our dude pushing that defender when he had no chance of catching him like there's some way they can still call a penalty for block in the back and overturn it.

Was the right move. Thanks, Sam.

Thanks for a good career, Sam.
Wow.
That's one way to clear up cap without having to cut a longtime veteran on the team.
You know you're getting old when someone from 2018 draft class is retiring and not because of a freak injury or concussion-related.
2018 draft feels like just a few years ago.

100% class act. Thank you Sam Hubbard for all the Ohio State and Cincinnati Bengal memories.

You gotta think Ring of Honor for him this upcoming season.

Oh wow, I'm surprised. To Hubbard: thanks for the great Bengals career.

Sam was one of the good guys. Maybe his body just couldn't hold up anymore. Hopefully he sticks around Cinci and stays around the team and apart of the Bengal family.
