If Murphy, Stewart and Ossai can combine for 20+ sacks to go along with what Trey puts up, I'd say that edge room would be considered formidable.

Fromidable would be an understatement. If Trey adds 15 sacks, that is 35 sacks or over 2 per game from just the DE's.

I would love it, but not sure a realistic outcome.

What I am alluding to is that if things pan out well, meaning that all of the perceived DE talent that is on this team responds well to the new coaching, the pass rushing success could be night and day different for the Bengals compared to last season.

I'm not saying that it will happen, just being optimistic.

Well, we're going to need the offense to be even better this year than they were last year. We want sacks from our DL, we need to give them as many opportunities to do so and we can't do that playing from behind. Getting out to a quick start doesn't just apply to the season, it applies to the games as well.

I love the optimism and hope you are correct. I am anxiously waiting to see how Golden does. I always said great coaches can take existing players and make the team better. He does have Slayton, Stewart, Knight and a fe others plus a whole bunch of injured starters returning. They should have better team speed, the question is will they play fast. Murphy is an elite athlete, but for me plays slower than hs athleticism for example.

I think our defense is better in 2025 and like what I hear from Burrow and others talking about the defense in camp.

Coach Golden may very well be the reason that the team worked to re-sign Joseph Ossai. During his time with the Bengals, Ossai has primarily been used as a DE, but he made his name at Univ Texas playing the Jack LB position. The defense that Texas was running at that time was somewhat similar to what Golden ran at ND. I could foresee some "different" defensive personnel and alignment packages coming this season for the defense, including some 4 LB sets.

Thought I saw that with Shemar. He can beat his man quickly, he just has trouble finishing the tackle on the QB.

This can be taught up.

That's the key right there. Coaches and players need to help teach him how to get to the QB. The hope is to marry his athletic ability with technique like great pass rushers possess. If he's willing to learn and apply, he could be a gem. If he gets that teaching and just goes out and relies on past muscle memory, or just can't translate, forget it. 

It would be awesome if Montgomery can teach Shemar up in this aspect no doubt.

Just got off the phone with my source on the Fant signing. He wasn’t aware but he did tell me Taylor was very impressed with Montgomery so far.

Thanks Sooner. I like what I am hearing about all the new coaches honestly, but you can see the Defense as a whole is playing way faster and 
more intense this camp. I liked what Montgomery said about Shemar Stewart, because that is what I saw in the film. If he can be coached up 
to harness his athleticism and finish look out.

Whether he finishes or not, the QB is not going to be able to slide to that side to get away from Hendrickson. Is Stewart simply applies the pressure he has the ability to, The QB is going to have to step up in the pocket and be at the mercy of the DT's.

Yeah, either way it is going to be better than what we saw from our ole buddy Sam last year.
