Male, female, one of each, however you want to do it.
To me, it's Denzel Washington. I see him as not only the best around but as an all time great, if not in the conversation for best ever.
The great ones make whatever difficult thing they do look easy. That's Denzel. He is effortless.
Raging Bull/Goodfellas Robert Deniro was my favorite.
Now? I would say Dicaprio or Christian Bale.

Great choices, no doubt.
Gene Hackman is a good one.

He just turned 86 yesterday, I think it was.
Daniel Day Lewis
Lincoln
Gangs of New York
There Will Be Blood
Last of the Mohicans
Among others
Females????? I'm a huge fan of Sasha Grey and the work she's done in the film industry.
I gotta put a vote in for Robert Duvall.
Gene Hackman is one of my all time favorites.
However to the OP... I feel like Denzel could go toe to toe with either one of these guys.
He will be a classic.
I don't know if Morgan Freeman is quite as talented as Washington but he is magnetic onscreen.

I agree with every word.
I like Don Cheadle a lot. I was a big Phillip Seymour Hoffman guy as well.

He definitely deserves a mention. Lots of different phases to his career too. Staying power is no small feat.
Anybody got anyone the used to like but don't any more or didn't used to but don't any more?
For me, it's John Travolta. Used to like him but not any more.
Kevin Spacey is a damn good actor as well.
Wow, so many choices. For actors I'd have to say DiCaprio, he was amazing in The Revenent. Runners up would be Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Denzel, maybe Kevin Spacey, Josh Brolin, too.
Actress, I might go with Kate Winslett. Runners up would include Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Lawrence, maybe Tilda Swinton.

Too many great ones to be able to say one is the best of the best. But my top nominees are Tom Hanks, Morgan Freeman, Robert DiNero, and Cuba Gooding Jr. Actresses are Julie Andrews, Maureen O'Hara, Drew Barrymore, and Kathy Bates.
Currently, I'd say the best actor and actress are Daniel Day Lewis and Meryl Streep (still, she has been at the top for awhile).
Of all time, including theater, I'd say Laurence Olivier.
For just the movie era, I'd say Marlon Brando (props to Paul Newman) and Meryl Streep (props to Katherine Hepburn and Ingrid Bergman).

Yea, I'm with you on this.
