I realize he's just one guy and Burrow is hurt, but after not getting a pre-season in 2020 I can't help but feel like ZT is looking the proverbial gift horse in the mouth, here.
Someone in a another thread made the joke that Chase wouldn't even be making the team if we were comparing him to some of the other bubble receivers which is ridiculous obviously as it was a joke. But why do we just hand him his starting X position and limit his reps accordingly in the preseason. Shouldn't we atleast go thru the motions and give him a enough reps that he shows he deserves the starting spot.

They went out there and had a lousy 3 and out that included a terrible drop and a penalty that netted -8 yards in 3 plays and that was all anyone needed. I get the injury risk and all that, but you'd think Burrow and Chase and ZT would hate to have that drive as the only pre-season performance. They all seemed pretty OK with it, see ya in week 1.
I completely agree and was saying basically the same thing in another thread. I get the injury concern as I was on the fence about them playing in the preseason. But if what they were saying was true and they thought it was important to get out there to knock off some rust I'm not sure what they accomplished with that terrible 3 and out. But yeah maybe now the starting offense remembers what terrible is and knows not to do that week 1.

Looks as though Chase is scared to get hit to me. He's looking for the defender before reeling in the pass.

We shouldn't waste anymore drives on Chase. He's a drive killer who should probably be inactive in favor of some of our other more reliable receivers. Does he even contribute on teams? I wouldn't be surprised if he's a healthy scratch vs Vikings.

As critical as I have been regarding Chase, that's a really bad take. I'm certain he will be playing week one unless he gets injured in practice.

ZT's from what I've read so far. Just getting caught up though.

Lol I know you’re just being extra salty to get a reaction. Chase will get plenty of opportunities. Reminds me of the Mixon needs 10, even 15+ carries to get it really going.
Let’s all wait until he does this in the regular season to get mad.. unfortunately. It looks highly possible after this point.
Another reminder. He didn’t do much early in the national championship game. Then destroyed it once he settled in. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

This was a week ago. Zac needs to make it happen.

Much like the things that are wrong with Chase make me think of Ross, the whole "Mixon needs 10+ carries to get going" brought back chilling shades of Jeremy Hill.
I'm not saying Chase and Mixon are Ross and Hill, but when I hear an excuse a flop got being applied to a new player...I get scurred.

Apparently he has been great in practice recently. So I'm not sure what that would solve. The problem thus far seems to be when he's in a game against another team. So you can throw balls at him all day long when he is around teammates. Throw one at him against another team and something goes wrong. I really do hope he gets over this mess.

I didnt agree with the bubble screen call
The defense read it and knew that would be the one
Throw and target Burrow would attempt before being sat.
The reason why it.worked vs the Giants was because Chase
Took a hard step and created separation.
This time he didnt sell it at all
I have ran a simple come back route to Chase.
He should be 4 on the depth chart or even 5 cause both Taylors have outplayed him

To me it looks like he's excited to make contact, break a tackle, and take it to the house. Unfortunately he's too amped and doesn't catch the ball before looking for the first defender to truck/juke.
See how that works?

Well he doesn't play special teams and when you rank our receivers where do you have him ranking? People feel comfortable targeting him over Tate? or even Thomas?
If you have him as a top 4 receiver on this team can I ask why? Because of draft status? And if he's not a top 4 receiver, how is he so set to receive meaningful snaps in folks eyes?

I was a Sewell guy no doubt. That said my concern level with chase is at a zero. He dropped a couple catchable passes in preseason in extremely limited reps...who cares. If he still has a bad case of dropsies when games count I'll start getting concerned. My take is these preseason drops will be forgotten after he starts making plays that count for real in regular season.

So does my opinion on his performance thus far make me a Sewell lover by default?
That's because you're not on some invisible team, hoping the other crashes and burns, because the Bengals didn't pick your guy.

I wanted Sewell and in this thread I have defended Chase saying it is too soon to be critical but the drops are a concern. They simply have to be a concern, it is the single most important thing for a WR and in game action at the NFL level so far, things haven't gone well.
See above; I don't throw that term out there to antagonise, but when bias is clear, I will call it out every time.

Been better. Wouldn't say great. Had some drops there, too. Was reading elsewhere that at one practice pass, he didn't even get separation from the coach covering him. Made the catch, though.
He needs to improve, for sure.

I don't think anybody in any realm, would trust Mike Thomas over ANY receiver on this team.

What a bunch of crap.
