Bengals ran cover three, Apple was expecting Bates to be there to help. I think Bates took Hill, so #11 had space towards the inside of the field. I think if Bates took #11, Hill would have been open. I would have to watch it again.

Because it was EXTREMELY CLOSE to a first down, it could even be argued that he made it via forward progress when pass was caught.

Yes and if Taylor refuses to run the ball and has 3 quick passes and a 3 and out the defense simply gets no rest.  We should at least attempt to run.
