Bengals trade 7th round pick for Bears RB Khalil Herbert
#21
I don't follow the Bears much, but wasn't he hurt last year?

Yep. It's really the least you can trade.

And we likely would have drafted a player likely to be out of the NFL.

He's a more athletic Zach Moss but he can't stay healthy. Hopefully he can produce for us. Here's his PFF page for career and games played this year:

The Bengals have been god awful at drafting, especially in later rounds.

Anything for a proven talent is a plus. They're not hitting these picks come draft time anyway.

I laughed pretty hard, i'll admit.

IIRC Herbert makes highlight runs. Like he can take it 70 yards both rushing and receiving.

He's a big threat on screens. Like just a huge threat. Which we really don't have.

I’m glad I got to read an in season trade.

I hope they are trying for another on the defensive front.

Well might be able to land a good RB with a 7th in 2025 honestly. Jim Nagy mentioned there's 25 to 30 draftable running backs in this upcoming class.

Really though like I said in the other thread I'm more irritated about resigning Trayveon Williams than anything because there was zero point. They had 4 years to evaluate him and he even got the chance as the 3rd down RB in 2023 but lost the job quickly to Drew Sample. He offered nothing as a Runner, Receiver, or Pass Protector and the Bengals RESIGNED him put him 3rd on the depth chart without any hint of competition.

Not a game changer unfortunately. Also not a guy who can carry the load. More of a 3rd down type of back

He's gotten dinged up a couple of times, missed 4 games in 2022 and 5 last year, both times he was able to return to the lineup and be productive. For what he cost, I'm going to call this a good signing. I mean they're bringing in a guy to get us by, not signing the back of the future...

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Yeah, you can usually get a guy of Herbert's caliber for an 8th,

He also has experience as a kick returner.

Isn't there some famous baseball trade from the 1920s where a player was traded for a handful of bats, or something?

Giving up a 7th doesn't bother me, but if we're getting an 8 game rental while we're 4-5, I would rather give up a slightly better pick for a better player. For me it's more about I don't know if he's the answer to any of our problems but they're not going to trade for two RBs, so he has to be now.

its good for a 7th round swap, but it's simply a band aid unfortunately. He is, and was always better than Moss, so thats certainly a positive

When I saw this I thought for sure I was about to get Rick Rolled, but nope Bengals made a move for a running back that they desperately needed with Moss out. Good for them, hope this is a sign of changes to come for offseason too.

My Brother-In-Law is a big Bears fan and he said Herbert is solid and that he only got squeezed out with the Swift signing. Thinks he will help us out a lot (he watched a lot of Bengal games because my sister is a Bengals fan as well).

I like the trade. I think this guy can be a threat. Shame his blocking isn’t that good.

Oh for sure. If Brown got dinged up, Bengals would be royally screwed at rb as in zero threat at all. Burrow would need Sample as a blocking back as he would be throwing 95% of the snaps.
