In order to be as fair as possible here, I attached his stats via ESPN.
In this man's second year, 15 tackles (7 solo) and ZERO SACKS.
Honestly, at this point, it isn't even about Murphy for me anymore. I saw the red flags before anyone else did, but he's just a part of the pattern of the Bengals picking assberries for defensive players in the draft. Honestly, it seems like they're just looking at top programs like Clemson Michigan and assuming they'll pan out because of the reputations these programs have. Seriously, why do we love Michigan players so much these days? Is beating Ryan Day Ohio state teams an indicator of NFL success now? I don't get it.
But i'm getting ahead of myself here.
What do you expect to see from him next season onward? Does he get another season to pull it together, or are our girlfriends and wives getting ready to be the fat ladies and start singing? Sound off.

Duke Tobin is awful. Didnt he want Emmanuel Forbes too? Washington already got rid of him. Just awful

I was happy w/ the Myles pick, to be honest I liked BJ Ojalari (LSU/ARZ) there, but I had no issue w/ Myles.
It appears he has not yet blossomed and it appears Sam is done. Payton Turner has been injury prone in NOS. Maybe we can strike gold twice by take a DE from there.

Starting Hubbard over Murphy all season and even seeing a lot more snaps for Ossai sure doesn't bode well if the coaches know their
ass from a hole in the ground. The thing is, I don't trust these coaches either and starting a hurt Hubbard just reaffirms my distrust.
I saw something about Murphy having our highest pressure rate weeks ago (yes, even higher than Trey) and we still didn't give him
more snaps. Get Hobby out of here along with the rest of the defensive staff and we can truly judge these young players.
Can we put a fork in Murphy now? Hell no, that would just be stupid, dude is still really young and should get much better.

The bigger concern is he only played 305 snaps last year but had 3.0 sacks.
He's at just over 200 now because he missed a month, but he's playing nearly 40% defensive snaps once back.
One would expect him to have at least a couple sacks by now.
I think everyone assumed his floor would be Sam Hubbard, but he ain't nowhere close to that.
IMO next year is his prove it year, but the Bengals should add another pass rusher anyway with Sample and Ossai hitting FA (and not being overly good anyway).
Hendrickson and Hubbard are set to hit FA in 2026 anyway, so they'll need 2 young guys to eventually replace them.
Even if Murphy ends up being one, they'll need another. Get a dude in this upcoming draft.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

The Bengals never-ending mantra.
They've used 4 Day1&2 picks on DL over the last 3 years.
They just can't draft DL. Having 4 scouts probably doesn't help, but also Marion Hobby hasn't developed shit.

Hobby needs gone. I've been pounding that drum for a while this season.
I don't know how much involvement he had in the identification of the DL brought in, but I'd hope a new DL coach would be heavily involved.
I got the sense from the Jenkins selection they wanted some better run defense, as Jenkins and Jackson were never really big pass rushers.
Only 4.5 sacks in 44 college games for Jenkins.
McKinnley Jackson only 7.5 sacks in 40 games in college.
Hobby has been with the Bengals since 2021, so he was (or should have been) involved with the selections of Ossai, Sample, and Murphy at DE. None of these dudes have done much of anything.
The only good things from a DL perspective have been Ogunjobi, Hill, and Hendrickson. Hendrickson and Ogunjobi already looked pretty refined as pass rushers, so there really wasn't much growth needed there.
While I agree with you they can't keep throwing early picks at a position and failing, they need to find a way to make those picks stick.
There looks to be talent in the draft.
The challenge is identifying which of that talent will fit well with the Bengals defensive scheme and will they have a guy who can coach them up.

Myles Murphy should get 40+ snaps per game for the rest of the season.

Murphy should be the full time starter for the rest of the year. Let's see what he does with full snaps. Then you can make a decision,

Oh please. Joe is one of the best Bengals draft guys out there and he was totally against picking Murphy.

Is this the part where we pretend tht I wasn't berated like a red-headed stepchild when I made my verdict on him exactly a year ago?
That they're wasn't a bunch of people jumping for joy after like, 3 data points where Myles Murphy didn't play god awful last season?

1. The Bengals do not have enough scouts.
2. The scouts the Bengals DO have are failures with respect to recognizing talent.
3. The Bengals do not have an offensive or defensive identity. This makes it impossible for scouts to identify players who fit a certain scheme.

I'd like to see how he would develop with a different Dline.coach

Point 3 is the most important one. Lou has no identity on defense in system terms. Ditto Zac on offense. This makes drafting correctly a challenge. Murphy needs to be in a straight 4-3 to prosper. The third LB is essential here. Lou's weird hybrid scheme forces the EDGE players to be on swivels.

I would say that’s not true. Their offensive identity is clearly just having Joe sling it A TON. Which will make replacing Tee a high priority. Not to mention upgrades at guard.

Is there another team which passes more than they run at a higher proportion than Cincinnati? Opposing defenses KNOW what’s coming and sit back in coverage knowing the run will rarely appear. It’s a miracle Joe hasn’t been intercepted more often.

Look at the Steelers. Their identity on both sides of the ball has not changed since 1971. They draft players and obtain players via trade and free agency who can “plug in” and fit their schemes. This makes player development much easier.

I would be happy with seeing Murphy replace Hubbard regularly, especially an injured Hubbard.
Happy seeing someone put a fork in this silliness of Murphy being "done."
