Stephen A, on the Bengals.
#1
Look, don't scorn me. I'm not a big fan of Stephen A either. But, he pretty much hit home runs on every single point about the Bengals game last night and the organization.

They can’t do that to our pledges, only we can do that to our pledges.

If that is where Stephen A said the Bengals Defensive Players should fly Coach and get their own Chick Fil A then

instead, Ownership & General Manager should be flying Coach and get their own Chick Fil A because they created the mess.

He called and asked and I gave him permission to call them trash, because they are. Our organization is so bad and the decision making is so bad. Even when Mike Brown steps away, it's bad. WTF?

As for JB, watching the game last night and putting himself in danger was nail biting. JUST, GO, DOWN!

I hope we see some serious moves to make this D better in the next week or so, because we SUCK PICKLES.

I know it's preseason. However, you can't look this bad even in preseason. WTF they doing in practice?

I think the hit on Zac was worthy. I think the hit on the organization was spot on. It shouldn't be this friggen hard to be a Bengals fan. Good Lord, after we won a playoff game, I thought our shit years were beyond us. I thought the FO was getting it together and we had a good coach. FF 4 years and here we are. A coach that will stay way beyond because he took us to the SB, A Duke Tobin who misses harder that a storm trooper on players, and a cheap ass organization who cares more about saving .10 cents than they do winning a SB.

Is our next 25yrs going to be repeated? WE SUCK!

I've never been a fan of Mike Brown & The Family going back to the 90s and the stadium deal. Even had an anti-MB thread deleted on the old mothership before Marvin was hired, but pretty sure in those days I wasn't sober when I posted it lol. Anyways my point is preach on.

The poor drafts in 22 & 23 falls on Tobin mostly. Free Agency recent misses fall on Tobin and his staff. Now are they understaffed? Then ownership has some responsibility. The slow starts fall on Zac. I realize Joe has started slow for a myriad of injury reasons and even last year his wrist wasn’t 100%. But Zac stayed with Pollack way too long. But Zac got the Bengals to AFC Championship ‘21-22 (won) ‘22-23 (lost). Joe went down in ‘23-24 and Zac with backup Browning just missed. In ‘24-25 he’s guilty. They should have made the playoffs.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

Can't really argue with him, but it is preseason. Who the hell knows how the defense and team will look in a real game.

if you can't stop the run at the very least or spy a running QB the offense won't matter. all the firepower you can think of will be useless if you can't get them on the field. basic things that ownership simply will not address. because it is and will always be a family run shitshow. all they want to do is sell tickets. if they make the playoffs this year. BIG if......they will go as far as their safeties can take them.

The Bengals’ roster is built to sell tickets, not to win Super Bowls.

I agree with the takes that Burrow shouldn't have been in that game after the first drive, if at all.

But the slow start nonsense is just that...nonsense.

For the love of God, why did none of those guys touch on the fact that Burrow has been injured or banged up pretty much every year since he's been in the league to start the year? He could barely walk in Cleveland. He was learning how to throw again last year. He was down 30 lbs and still sick from an apendectomy against the Steelers.

And the defense sucks because Tobin has made terrible personel moves and has drafted poorly. All this heat on ZT going into this year (some of it deserved) but Tobin's name isn't even mentiooned. Ridiculous.

He's a total shock jock that I don't care much for and rarely, if ever watch. Having said that I've agreed with his takes on the Bengals quite often.

I'm actually a pretty big Cowherd fan. I think he's one of the only talk guys that actually thinks before he talks lol

Seriously though, Golden has somehow made the run defense worse than last year.
Last year, they were 16th in YPA allowed, 24th in run TDs allowed, 19th in run yards allowed.
The way the defense has looked so far, this group could be near dead last in run defense, possibly in total defense.

The LBs look terrible out there, and the DL is basically a sieve.
I thought Jenkins and Slaton were supposed to be good run defenders even if they don't provide much pass rush.
Hendrickson isn't the best run defender, but none of the other DEs look worth a damn.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

It's looking that way for sure, but it won't be official until the games count. Don't get me wrong, preaching to the choir here, I would have to have some crazy good odds to bet they would crack top 20 defense lol.

I'm HOPING it's just time the team needs to get used to Golden's defense, but part of me does worry Golden's defense might have been fine in college but might struggle in the NFL. This is his first DC job in the NFL, after all.

And I pointed this out back in the Winter when they were looking at DC candidates, but even when Golden was the LB coach, Pratt and Wilson played arguably better after Golden departed compared to when he was the LB coach.
I was just never impressed with Golden as a coach, at least while he was with the Bengals.
