Special teams and H-back. This new coaching staff has prioritized back of the roster guys as ST specialists. They just have to be competent at their positions, but great at special teams.

Carter is like Cedric Peerman but the TE version. Warrior on STs. Bad news if they have to be the #1 at their position.

Is anyone else a bit disappointed with the results of our #1 waiver priority and expanded practice squad? Yes, I get that it’s literally the practice squad - not All-Pro level talent - but in a season with re-made rules I expected something a little more exciting.
I find it hard to believe that the worst team in the NFL last season couldn’t find a better player than the 14 guys they already had around..

worst possible year to have the #1 waiver priority at this point. we have no idea what any of these guys who were on other teams look like currently.
We picked a damn good time to have the #1 overall pick and all of the draft capital that came with that before this shit show of a college season though.

I think lack of preseason and lack of travel for scouts have made out some constraints on what’s possible by teams.
Assuming it’s more difficult to get a read on guys outside the organization than in a normal year.

OG Keaton Sutherland signed to PS. UDFA signed by Bengals last season. Placed on PS, then called up. Played 1 game, waived to go back on PS and Miami scooped him up. Played in 3 games with them starting 2.

Dolegala not making the PS is a bit strange to me, other than that. Solid squad.

I wonder if Dolegala is eye-balling some other team's PS thinking he has a better way forward there (which is probably not the case).
We still have one spot left. Could still be Dolegala's.
But could also go to a specialist, say Tristan Vizcaino, who is trying out with Buffalo (I think) right now. Or maybe Dan Godsil, as Clark Harris (LS) is 36 years old.
Or some random dude from another team none of us have heard of.

Maybe it is because I don't get into the draft as much as I used to, but I don't know hardly any of the guys on our PS.

I had thought about using a spot for a second LS, but there are guys on the team already who serve as the second string for the position and can get us through a single game. At that point it would be easy to sign someone off the street if there is a need for a longer replacement. With that being the case, I see no reason to use a spot that way.

McCown is on the Eagles practice squad, so I agree that there should be a number of vets out there willing to be on standby and able to keep the NFL dream alive. If nothing else, they might feel they can keep showing in practice they should be activated over a younger player.

Maybe. I mean, with COVID protocols it might be tricky getting anyone off the street cleared and ready in 1 week. Though PK/P/LS would have the best shot since there is not as much for them to learn, play wise.

You're probably right about LS.
The more I think about it, the more I think the last spot should be a kicker though, because if the positive test is say Saturday or Sunday morning it's not like another guy on the team can kick. And you're not flying in somebody that quickly. Another player could punt or long snap, but a kicker on the PS seems a must.

Think he was trying out for the XFL...
Think he would be ecstatic being on the Bengals as a backup Kicker in case Fat Randy went down lol
Sure would be fun to have him back on the team, but we are dreaming ha ha

So the last spot is going to Keandre Jones, per Bengals.com. I thought that might happen. I remember him from the draft process. Profile is similar to Kendal Futrell... undersized passrusher converting to edge/LB for us.
Curious what the contingency plan is if Bullock should get Covid on game day, or even the day before.

We are definitely liking them smaller edge/Linebackers from what I am seeing. ADG I think will be a great pick down the road.
Also curious about the Kicker situation. I would like to bring back Chad lol
Looked to be kicking well this Offseason and he is in great shape. Would be funny as hell.

Shit. Can you imagine Chad on the PS playing WR, DB, and K? I bet he would still be better than most guys....

Would be a blast to bring him back and yeah, I bet he would as well. Dude is in great shape and one of the hardest workers ever.
I even hated on the guy at times for being a diva, but he is still one of my favorite Bengals of all time...
And he wasn't a diva, just had tons of fun and loved the game. Love Chad.

The thing about signing a place kicker off the street the day before a game is that he would not have to learn anything about our playbook like an offense or defensive player would have to.
A few years ago the UT Vols literally called a guy at a frat house one hour before kickoff and dressed him as a kicker. He was not the #1 kicker but they needed two for the game in case one got injured.
