It's time to face the facts... - Tomkat - 09-22-2019

Andy Dalton is not "clutch."
Sure, he's had SOME clutch moments... (beating Baltimore on New Year's eve to send Buffalo to the playoffs comes to mind.)
But, for his overall career, I don't think he is clutch by any stretch of the imagination.

When the Bills scored their go-ahead TD, did anyone think "Oh, they left Dalton too much time?"
Now, imagine if that were Rodgers, Brady, hell even Roethlisberger.

I love Dalton as much as anyone... I own his jersey.
But, I think it's just time to move on.

Actually, I did fully believe that they would march right down the field, which they did, until that last play..

Did the "just changing the QB won't make a difference" check out the Giant's game today?

RE: It's time to face the facts... - bengals73 - 09-22-2019

If this was a real Football organization, AD would be gone long ago.

RE: It's time to face the facts... - thillan - 09-22-2019

The 2017 draft was the best time to move on from him. Decent talent, could've grabbed a QB at our draft spot, and instead drafted the fast guy. Not the worst pick ever, but a blown chance.

Now we will be drafting a QB to a very poor team.

I like Dalton too, but I think he has peaked like Marvin and achieved no more than mediocrity. Thank you for the couple of playoffs with losses but I'm ready to move forward. Finley is Zac's QB.

Came back down 25-10 against a talented defense too, and without the star RB.

:andy: The team was re-energized.   Stagnation is real.

Andy is not going to be a superbowl winning QB and that's all that matters, who cares about a playoff win? That's all cincy seems to care about, getting a single playoff win. Low aspirations equates to low results. If it's apparent Dalton can't win a superbowl, why is he still here? We have to be lucky to have Andy win a ring, he could do it if we somehow got through the other rounds and he had a magical game and/or the rest of the team had their A+ game.

Doesn't seem like the last X superbowl winners had that type of character at QB. The teams that reach the bowl, and subsequently win it, have star QBs. Nick Foles is/was leagues better than Andy!

And that's the problem, Dalton otherwise is such a likable guy. That's "enough" for a man like M. Brown who can get paid if we look like we might make the playoffs.

Would have been an "L" with a good kicker.

RE: It's time to face the facts... - reuben.ahmed - 09-22-2019

Here's the list of superbowl starting QBs since the last time the Bungles did any performance in the post-season.

I bolded the winning player(s) Andy is "like", he doesn't fit in this crowd, we know that by now. He should be gone, if he doesn't have the potential to win a superbowl, why is he on the team. I like to play that game with the rest of our players - is there a single team out there that would want "so and so"? OK, let's keep him. is there a single team that wants randy Bullock? Was there a single team that wanted Marvin Lewis? Who wants Andy as a starting QB?

1988 XXIII Joe Montana Boomer Esiason
1989 XXIV Joe Montana John Elway
1990 XXV Jeff Hostetler Jim Kelly
1991 XXVI Mark Rypien Jim Kelly
1992 XXVII Troy Aikman Jim Kelly
1993 XXVIII Troy Aikman Jim Kelly
1994 XXIX Steve Young Stan Humphries
1995 XXX Troy Aikman Neil O'Donnell
1996 XXXI Brett Favre DrNew Bledsoe
1997 XXXII John Elway Brett Favre
1998 XXXIII John Elway Chris Chandler
1999 XXXIV Kurt Warner Steve Mcair
2000 XXXV Trent Dilfer Kerry Collins - has to be lucky and not have stiff competition
2001 XXXVI Tom Brady Kurt Warner
2002 XXXVII Brad Johnson Rich Gannon - has to be lucky and not have stiff competition
2003 XXXVIII Tom Brady Jake Delhomme
2004 XXXIX Tom Brady Donovan Mcabb
2005 XL Ben Roethlisberger Matt Hasselbeck
2006 XLI Peyton Manning Rex Grossman
2007 XLII Eli Manning Tom Brady
2008 XLIII Ben Roethlisberger Kurt Warner
2009 XLIV Drew Brees Peyton Manning
2010 XLV Aaron Rodgers Ben Roethlisberger
2011 XLVI Eli Manning Tom Brady
2012 XLVII Joe Flacco Colin Kaepernick
2013 XLVIII Russell Wilson Peyton Manning

2015 50 Peyton Manning Cam Newton
2016 LI Tom Brady Matt Ryan
2017 LII Nick Foles Tom Brady
2018 LIII Tom Brady Jared Goff

Andy's time should be done in Cincy, especially at an 0-3 start. Cincy is in jeopardy of having a worse record with another QB, so what's taylor going to do? Try to make 8-8, squeak into the playoffs and lose the first game like Marvin was a specialist at?

RE: It's time to face the facts... - Benton - 09-22-2019

Andy's ok.

The line stinks and we're bottom fifth in defense. If you want someone to teach Andy to block for himself or make a tackle, then ok.

RE: It's time to face the facts... - Nicomo Cosca - 09-22-2019

It’s absolutely time to move on. Give Finley some starts to see what we have in him, and if he doesn’t look good use the high draft pick on a QB.

Nine years of excuses. Marvin, multiple OC’s, OL, lack of weapons (that’s my favorite), etc.

Enough is enough.

Can our backup teach him how to move in the pocket?

RE: It's time to face the facts... - reuben.ahmed - 09-22-2019

Yeah, i do agree our offensive line is junky. I wonder why we have zero designed rollouts, seemed to work well for aaron rodgers for years. Within a couple seconds the closest defender is 10 yards away lol. Anyway what seemed to work well for Andy against SEA were quick throws...is it possible they're not used to trying to adjust game plans game to game, since it appeared marvin tried to play the same game every game?

I'm fine with it. I like Andy, but I definitely don't think the Bengals are winning anything this year and by the time they build back up, Andy won't be here. I'd be fine with seeing Finley get real game time. I doubt it will happen but I'd be happy.

RE: It's time to face the facts... - Destro - 09-22-2019

Ad is not a Hall of Famer, but if you put Brees or Brady on our team, all it would do is ensure their retirement. This team is not a QB away. Even with this teams history of 1st round draft pick QBs, we have not been just a QB away. Some people lock into the QB position because it is the easy choice. People can arm chair a QB the Bengals should have picked to replace Dalton, once the evidence is in, but seem to give every other NFL welfare case on the team a pass.

RE: It's time to face the facts... - Tomkat - 09-22-2019

I see other teams move the pocket with roll outs, etc... or do other things to neutralize the pass rush.
I rarely see the Bengals do those same things.

Yes! It does energize the team. Heck we saw that last year with the Browns, you could damn near feel the energy coming from the tv. Everyone knows this team is a mess, the line is a joke etc. but I think we half assed the offseason. Sure we made some very un-Brown like changes but Marvin was only part of the problem, Dalton is the other. You want a New Dey? Get some damn FA’s that are considered top 5 at their position for once and make the QB change. How this team stands by its “ build threw the draft” motto, yet consistently whiffs on picks and going on 3 damn decades of this “ model” Without a playoff win is mind blowing.

RE: It's time to face the facts... - rfaulk34 - 09-22-2019

Lap had an interview on the pregame show with ZT and asked him if he liked how the passing game was progressing. Taylor talked about how they liked how the receivers were running their routes and how the line was blocking in pass pro but didn't say a word about Dalton.

Take it for what it's worth. He was a QB and he watches film. If anyone watches the all 22 of Bengals games, you can see a myriad of receiving options that would have been better than the one QB14 chose. And it doesn't take a genius to see that he's terrible way more often than not when the pocket breaks down.
