5 more years - c766 - 01-08-2025 2025 - 2029 Then Unrestricted FA in 2030. That is the timeline on how long the Bengals have Burrow. They have already burned through 5 years, if you need any reference point on how quick it will go. The Bengals are 38-30-1 when Burrow starts, he has missed 13 games with two serious injuries in those 5 years. They have won 5 playoff games. Raiders, Titans, Chiefs, Ravens and Bills. They have lost two others, the Super Bowl and the ACF Championship 2 years ago. Passing attempts: 2,547 Passing completions: 1,748 Completion percentage: 68.6% TD–INT: 140–46 Passing yards: 19,001 Passer rating: 101.2 He has been better than anyone had imagined when he was drafted #1OA. Burrow is entering the absolute prime of his QB Career, Ages 28-33, and his contract is a bargain compared to other QB contracts that will be signed in the next few seasons. There should be alarm bells going off in the FO. This team, and their historically miser -first approach, needs to be drastically altered to capitalize on what they have in front of them. As a Bengal Fan, the next 5 years are certainly exciting, but so were the last two years of no playoffs and 9-8 records. To me, both were wasted seasons, but this year was more egregious given the healthy and MVP worthy Season he posted. Must Do's: Cut the waste: Hubbard, Rankins, Cappa, Sample, etc. Buy 4 Premier FAs: Teven Jenkins, Becton at Guards to start. LB and Safety as well. Sign Higgins and Chase to 4 year extensions. Essentially matching burrows time in stripes and the primes of their careers. Draft: BPA on Defense in the first 3 rounds. Go win two Super Bowls. RE: 5 more years - ochocincos - 01-08-2025 It's easy for the fans to see the waste and ask to cut it. But we've seen how hard it has been for some (most?) of these new guys coming in to adapt to the new team and become productive. I can also see some hesitation in guys who have been with the team 3+ years like Hubbard and Cappa. Bengals do show some level of loyalty and may decide to keep 1/both of them while bringing in a draft pick to sit behind them a year to groom instead. Guys like Stone, Rankins, and Moss though haven't been here long enough to justify keeping them around and they didn't perform well enough for the entirety of the season to give me confidence they'll be good in 2025. The FO's mentality seems to be continuity is the key to getting this Super Bowl contender back to the playoffs, so I wouldn't be surprised to see just a few new faces added in FA to take over any departures (voluntarily or not) plus a couple early draft picks making a push for playing time as well. Maybe that changes with a new DC and OL coach though. RE: 5 more years - dxdtdemon - 01-08-2025 Given Burrow's durability issues, it's important to not restructure his contract because as of now, there's an out in 2028 with only $15 in dead money as opposed to the $100+ million to cut him before then. This year was just an aberration for him healthwise and I doubt he's able to start more than 8 games in a season ever again. He missed 7 games last year w the Wrist. He has also started in 7 additional Playoff games in the same span. But, you already knew that and are trolling. RE: 5 more years - Luvnit2 - 01-08-2025 Minimum of 5 years guaranteed, if the tag him, it goes to 7 years. I agree we need to put a solid defense on the field and fix the OG situation with FA's and not draft picks. Put a great OL in front of him and he can do better which is unreal when we factor in how well he did with a bad OL in 2024. RE: 5 more years - wadirumm - 01-08-2025 Burrow and Chase will win a super bowl... with some other team. I hope I am wrong. And while he wasn't targeted much, only 22 times, he did catch 20 of them with 8 first downs and a touchdown RE: 5 more years - Nicomo Cosca - 01-08-2025 Sample catching strays in the OP. Not sure we should be cutting a player from an already weak position group. But I agree with the general sentiment. Not going all in during Burrow’s prime would be unforgivable. RE: 5 more years - c766 - 01-08-2025 If from that, you got defensive over Drew Sample, I dont really know what to say. The way Samples contract is, they can cut him with 0 dead cap this year only...or pay him 6 million over the next 2. He will get cut, as he is terrible. But again, that is not the point. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/29088/drew-sample RE: 5 more years - jj22 - 01-08-2025 I agree all was reasonable until the Sample shot. We should be beyond that. Sample a key cog at this point and will likely be a bengal for another 10 years. It is weird people talk about cutting Drew Sample, a top notch blocking TE, and in the next breath talk about the importance of keeping Joe Burrow upright... He is a great blocker and a reasonable outlet receiver, and at a bargain price. Drew Sample is much more valuable to the Bengals than any stat Queen could ever even recognize. In fact, just this past Saturday, Sample caught a pass and leaned his shoulder into the defender, who had no choice but to crumble to the ground as Sample bulled for an important first down. You are going to be sad when he is cut this year. RE: 5 more years - SunsetBengal - 01-08-2025 (01-08-2025, 09:30 PM)c766 Wrote: You are going to be sad when he is cut this year. Not nearly as sad as some of the Bengal receivers when they realize that one of their best downfield blockers is no longer on the team. Thats the great thing about poorly graded, low producing, one dimensional players. They are easily replaceable in a number of ways. TE’s currently under contract if Sample is cut: Erick All - likely misses most on next season Tanner McLachlan - played 5 offensive snaps the entire season, and couldn’t get on the field even after All went down Even if they re-sign Gesicki they still need a TE that can actually block. Sample isn’t going anywhere. RE: 5 more years - FormerlyBengalRugby - 01-08-2025 (01-08-2025, 10:12 PM)SunsetBengal Wrote: An injury prone guy that will likely cost to much? Sure, why not.
