Jack sawyer - Jpoore - 01-11-2025

Gonna have to take him early rd2 if we want him. Seems like a very very high floor player. A Sam Hubbard type but a better pass rusher. Also seen some maxx Crosby comps. Locker room leade. My goal was to get him rd3 before the playoffs but that’s not happening now.

6”5 260 5.6 40 time.

What are some reasons you would like him? Or what are some reasons you wouldn’t want him?

I'm having a hard time getting a read on the OSU DL players. They're clearly athletic, and their pass rush stats are good but not elite. They're on the best run defense in the country because their pass defense is the best in the country. {The run D is also top 10.} I'm just worried that when they get to the NFL they become just a guy.. not that we couldn't a couple "just a guy"s.

They are 5th in rushing.

I like Sawyer, but really this is his first year with good production. I do think there are more explosive DEs

Jack Sawyer had the 6th-best edge pressure pct. (16.2%) among all DL in the FBS coming into this game. Not the flashiest edge rusher, but simply gets the job done with power and mature hand usage to overwhelm blockers. An amazing play

Everyone sees the amazing play by Jack Sawyer... I see a tackle (Cameron Williams) with zero depth to his kickstep gets on his toes and lunges with his head down trying to get back into position. Williams had a rough night trying to out athlete a technician in Sawyer.

Pass, 2nd round is too high for Captain Jack. He never did quite live up to the hype and expectations at OSU. Not that he isn't a strong, solid player; It's just that he was sold as the next version of one of the Bosas, which clearly he was not. If he's still on the board in the 5th, that might be worth a chance on him.

Sawyer has a great build and is solid against the run and, with Hendrickson eating up double teams across from him, I think he'd come in and be a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks.

I also liked his ability to bullrush because I think, at times, that's going to be more beneficial than just moves to get to past the tackle because it causes more commotion and doesn't give the quarterback anywhere to go. It also keeps a tackle on their toes and indecisive, which lessens his abilities as a blocker.

I think Jenkins and Hill could also benefit from another good end being out there.

We could even double dip in OSU and get Williams at nose in the second because I think he can also use his moves to get a pass rush, which is unusual from the nose. He's short, but he has great upper body strength, which makes him difficult to move and able to take on double teams.

I fully endorse Williams. Like you said, he doesn't have the standard length, but he's strong and quick. He gets under and through, where others get tied up in blocks.

Edit: Even if, I don't see Williams as a 2nd round guy. 4th is where I see his value.

But that waist bend, though....

I see that as more evidence as to why this OL class is so bad rather than Sawyer actually being that great a prospect.

Lowest man wins in the trenches. That's what I like about him. We're on the same wavelength there.

I don't think there's any way that he makes it to round 4. I really don't think he makes it out of the top 50.

Well that’s the problem. If you’re comparing him to what he was said coming out that’s the problem. Just look at boy of work.especially this last year. Did a light job finally click? He’s been my dream 3rd round pick. But think he’s gotta go rd2 now. And would have no qualms there. At worst he’s a prime Sam Hubbard but a better pass rusher. A 8-9 sack a year guy. And a leader of men. You take that all day. At best? He turns into max Crosby. (no this isn’t likely)

You’re dreaming if you think tyliek makes it to rd2.  He’s pretty consensually top 20 on big boards.

The highly acclaimed MDD consensus has him currently at 34, which I feel is 20-30 spots too high. As good as he is at times, there are also games where he disappears and is a non-factor.

As for Sawyer, that same big board has him currently at 47, yes he did have a good year, but once his speed is measured I feel like he's going to drop at least by a round.

Is he really that slow? A 5.6 forty seems slow for a DE in today's NFL.

He does seem to flash big plays, but I don't see him being a great NFL player. If course, I don't think Hubbard was ever a great player either. I think he was solid against the run with a weak pass rush grade.

I'm not sure where that 5.6 number came from, I don't think that he's quite that slow, but you'd like to see 4.8 or better from an edge rusher with his size/weight.
