RE: Reds May 2024 thread - Timanky12 - 05-14-2024 I missed the game last night for obvious reasons, but I understand Diaz hit a batter and walked 2 in the 9th. What a great recipe for success, when you have a 1 run lead. RE: Reds May 2024 thread - Timanky12 - 05-14-2024 Great America ballpark is starting to look like a UFL game, where they can’t show the stands, for fear of alienating fans from wasting their money to come to the ball park. ( Because they’re are so many empty seats) RE: Reds May 2024 thread - michaelsean - 05-14-2024 Be nice to have an owner who wants to win. The last two have blown. I wonder what their ploy will be THIS summer, when they're already "out of it" by June. Dunk-booth with Phil? Analytics-ran soothsayer booth with DumBell? Another "concert" with "artists" that haven't been relative since 2003? Don't get me wrong, I never believed they would be WS contenders this season. But they had me thinking they might possibly make some waves and inch into the playoffs. Be so nice to see after all this suffering. It was a pipe dream RE: Reds May 2024 thread - Timanky12 - 05-14-2024 Listening to David Bells postgame interview is like watching Marvin Lewis postgame. They never say anything constructive and always say the team is trying hard and it’s still early in the season. You have to give credit to the other team, bull. How about saying we suck, and we are going to find better players and send some guys down to fix their problems. RE: Reds May 2024 thread - Timanky12 - 05-14-2024 We will be 12 to 15 games out by the end of May, and season is over. RE: Reds May 2024 thread - Nicomo Cosca - 05-15-2024 Pretty nice game for Hunter Greene. Now FFS bullpen don’t blow it. RE: Reds May 2024 thread - cinci4life - 05-15-2024 Best all around game they've played in a long time. Reds May 2024 thread - The D.O.Z. - 05-15-2024 C'mon. Be the win that starts a winning streak! Hunter pitched great and the team played well behind him. Was nice to get more than 3 runs for a change! RE: Reds May 2024 thread - Forever Spinning Vinyl - 05-15-2024 Hunter Greene is currently 17th in the NL with his 3.27 ERA . . . the Dodgers superstar Yamamoto is 16th with 3.21. It's all about location. Hunter reminds me of Tyler Mahle . . . 87 effective pitches, two or three mistakes right down the middle, normally the mistakes are about five or six pitches apart. When he's on, he's awesome . . . when he's off, he's awf-ul. RE: Reds May 2024 thread - bengalfan74 - 05-15-2024 (05-15-2024, 01:01 AM)Nicomo Cosca Wrote: Pretty nice game for Hunter Greene. RE: Reds May 2024 thread - ochocincos - 05-15-2024 Many were super concerned with the pitching after last year, but it's the hitting that has really fallen off. And that's not overly surprising with so many fresh faces last season. McLain is on the mend, but the other young guys just aren't cutting it. EDLC has the best average of guys with 100+ ABs at just .260. Stephenson, Candelario, and India aren't even at .240. Let's actually give some credit to the starting rotation, as Greene, Lodolo, and Abbot all are sub-3.5 ERA. Ashcraft and Montas under 4.5. Bullpen has not been lights out, but there's room for improvement there as some guys come back from injury (hopefully). The big losing streak has really put the Reds in a tough spot, but if they bounce back going into the ASB, maybe a trade for a bat and/or RP could make sense. Reds are 25th in payroll at $100 mill, which is about $20-30 mill lower than previous years, so they should have some opportunity to pick up some additional costs later in the year. RE: Reds May 2024 thread - Goalpost - 05-15-2024 Cincinnati Reds: +13000 (bet $10 to win $1,310 total). So says Vegas on the Reds to win world series. As of today, Reds are only 2 1/2 out of a wild card. But....the roster remains significantly challenged offensively. And I'm one of them. And like you say thus far the pitching, while not great by any stretch, hasn't been that bad. It's the offense that's stinking the place up!! On any given night we'll have two-four players in the lineup batting under .200 And also to be fair injuries and issues have messed up our mojo. Friedl and McClain out before we even got started. Then Marte and his brain fart. I never dreamed our offense would be this pathetic though. Candelario has been surging this past week, hoping he keeps it up. Stephenson seems to be slowly getting better. You gotta believe Steer is gonna work out of his funk. CES ? I'm just not sure what to make of him? Fraley has quietly been one of our better hitters thus far, just no power. RE: Reds May 2024 thread - kevin - 05-15-2024 Reds have a chance to win their 19th game today. I hope they do, so they can then go for win #20. Try to salvage the second half of May and get as close to 30 as possible. Reds owners need money. 2020 covid no fans in stands and 2021 and 2022 few fans in stands. Reds bounced back in 2023 with good attendance but were still being hit with Moose and Votto contracts. It is rather key for Reds to win a few games so that they have huge crowds in Cincinnati during the long Memorial Day homestand. Reds who sometimes get shafted being on the road on major holidays, are in a great position to make Big Money with 3 teams coming to Cincy during the upcoming holiday. A good chance for the working class to be able to holiday at games in Cincinnati. I mention this because the Reds are NOT the deep pocket New York Yankees or the LA Dodgers. Cincinnati is a lot smaller. Covid was a huge financial setback for the smaller town Cincinnati, than NY or LA. However Reds got fans back in 2023. Reds NEED fans also in 2024, at park spending MONEY. If you want this team to stay in Cincinnati and also be a play-off team, Fans need to Spend Money. Reds have a chance to make BIG MONEY over the long Memorial Day homestand of 3 teams coming to Cincy. Never compare Bengals to Reds, because NFL has TV Revenue Sharing for Bengals, and Reds don't get anything close to TV Revenue of NY or LA. It is more balanced for Bengals than Reds. Reds won World Series in 1990, but the no World Series and strike of 1994 made MLB all for the Big City Rich. and Smaller Cities became The Poor Boys. The 1994 strike changed MLB huge. Reds are in dire need of Making MONEY at GABP in a rare year where they actually have a long homestand over a major summer Holiday. Bengals Fans talking how Reds can spend money don't get it, Reds have to Make Money this month in GABP over Holiday Homestands. Make Money, NOT Spend Money. Bouncing back from 2020, 2021, 2022 money losing years. So hoping Reds get win 19 today, so they can then go after win 20. Maybe fall somewhere between 25 and 30 wins end of month, and BIG BUCKS coming into Reds Organization due to Huge Crowds in GABP over the Holiday. THAT is the short range goal. Not play-offs, that is long range goal. Short range goal is win some games and make a ton of money at GABP this month in May. MONEY is the overlooked stat by Fans. Reds need MONEY more than hitting or pitching. Reds have a chance to bring in Big Money over this coming long Holiday Homestand. The Reds Owners lost their rear ends on 2020 no fans and 2021, 2022 few fans. Reds owners were forced to consider moving out of Cincinnati. But 2023 was a Money Maker and a Big Memorial Day Time long home stand is needed to really bounce back big in the Money end of MLB for Reds. GO REDS. If Diaz could turn it around and start pitching like the 2023 Diaz, that would help. So far he stinks, but if he could turn it around and get out of his pitching slump . When Diaz is on his game, he is 30 to 40 saves guy. Closers do go through slumps, so hopefully Diaz gets back on track. Instead of blowing games, he comers in and gets them out, no runs, seals the wins. RE: Reds May 2024 thread - Timanky12 - 05-15-2024 The Reds have 9 strike outs in 17 batters, really. And 1 stinking hit, wow RE: Reds May 2024 thread - Timanky12 - 05-15-2024 At least the Reds are consistent, they stink almost every game. Losers of 12 of 14 with more to come in LA. Season is on the brink of total collapse. RE: Reds May 2024 thread - bengalfan74 - 05-15-2024 (05-15-2024, 05:53 PM)Timanky12 Wrote: The Reds have 9 strike outs in 17 batters, really. They've got to find a way to stop the bleeding. You do understand in order for Diaz to come in get saves we have to actually have the lead at end of game. Diaz IS NOT the problem right now, Kevin RE: Reds May 2024 thread - samhain - 05-15-2024 They are bordering on unwatchable. Actually, more like painful to watch. This once loaded line up looks more AAA every night. |
