Not even Spags could make a secondary composed of Geno Stone, CTB and Josh Newton work. Lou's going to be the sacrifical lamb, but the idiot ruining this team is safe and he won't be fired not matter what. Tobin is the one who should be fired. Absolutely agree Duke Tobin and his four scouts are the REAL problem. One score games and can’t beat the AFC north is a major problem. Weren't they .500 in the division this year? Looked pretty good against the division in 21 and 22 as well. If our coach was just about anybody else having the #30 best OL yet #6 offense he’d be a hero. The stats available out there for ownership and head coaches dwarfs what PFF or Goodberry or whodathunkit has. The stats on defense are pretty damning. The offense with a crap OL was incredible. The reports I'm seeing are that Zac was the one that made the call on firing them. I don't know if that is confirmed. I don't know how much the lousy defense was Lou and how much it was the lousy draft picks. I'd loved to be a fly on the wall as the draft boards were constructed in recent years in order to discern how much input the coaches gave into the draft picks and whose to blame for those picks. Regardless, it was clear that something had to happen on defense and the OL side of coaching. My suspicion is that, given the small scouting department, the coaches were also responsible in a large part for the lousy drafting. We might not only improve the defense and OL but also the drafting. Poor Zac, all he has to work with is arguably the best QB in football, and the best WR. Look at what he’s done with so little! I'm going to judge him on what he does with the whole team, not just the offense. He always brings the team into the season unprepared and in a hole. He never can do anything with the defense apparently. We spend more than almost everyone in the league on defensive players and apparently he's a bad evaluater for those players as well. Sure, he does well with a top 2 QB and the best reciever in the league with another #1 along side him. I have no doubt that any coach could have the offense firing with those players. Zac has underperformed and underwhelmed since he got here. Have you followed this team very long? LoL. They haven't hit on ANY lineman since Sam Hubbard.....that includes offensive linemen. I got news for ya pal, these personnel issues go back to the Marvin Lewis regime. Hint.....it ain't the coaches now, and it wasn't then....and I blamed Marvin for a lot of it. That's not how things work.....some coaches are managers of the team, others have a focus on one side of the ball or the other. The manager types let the coordinators run their units. Guys like Reid run the offense and stay out of the way of the defense. Guys like Belichick let OC run the offense and they run the defense. You act like that's something that has never happened in the league and isn't actually rather common. Now, starting slow, and some other critiques are one thing, but just making up stuff is another. The Bengals have been poor at evaluating talent for 40 ***** years, but let's blame Zac. A team that wants to win never turns down an opportunity to improve. Maybe I should have said the offense can reach another level under Ben Johnson instead of cook. Still the offense did well this year more because of Joe, Jamar and company not Zac Taylor. Zac’s offensive scheme puts the most pressure possible on Joe and the offensive line and his play calling is predictable and often head scratching. Ben Johnson is innovative and helps his offense by play design. He elevates his talent. I can only imagine what he could do with Joe as his QB. But it’s a moot point now as Zac is staying, so I’m just hoping he can make adjustments and evolve. Johnson has an all world offensive line. Let's not underestimate that advantage. I get it, everyone likes the shiny stuff, but as an old lineman, I hate seeing that being ignored. He’s the head coach. He doesn’t get let off the hook for ANY part of the team sucking. Not to mention his offensive scheme makes both the QB and the OL have to play on hard mode (the guards do suck though). I posted the numbers in a thread recently. Zac does very little to make things easier for his offense. https://thebengalsboard.com/thread-39766.html RE: Bengals fire Lou Anarumo, Frank Pollack, James Bettcher and Marion Hobby - Soonerpeace - 01-06-2025 (01-06-2025, 04:53 PM)Nepa Wrote: The reports I'm seeing are that Zac was the one that made the call on firing them. The secondary issue was losing Bates & Bell. The collapse started then. I’d bet Zac wasn’t told who to fire but that the defense was bad. The OL geez it’s amazing the #30 ranked OL and Zac had the #6 offense. Hill may best also Joe Burrow did great with a bad OL, Mahomes struggled with a bad OL even with arguably one of best guards and centers in the NFL and one of best TE's in the league. Ravens, Bills and Chiefs won die to a good (Ravens) to great defense (chiefs and bills). Bengals scored more than 30 points and lost an NFL record 4 times. https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1h4e0i6/with_their_4438_loss_to_the_steelers_the/ If you are going to hate on Zac, averaging almost 30 points a game with offense he calls the play is a poor reason. Basically, he's just more impressive from a physical stand point RE: Bengals fire Lou Anarumo, Frank Pollack, James Bettcher and Marion Hobby - TKUHL - 01-06-2025 Think they nailed who should be fired. We all knew Zac wasn’t going anywhere regardless. Hope this works out. lol I would literally just draft OL/DL. This team can be elite with solid lines. Make it happen Duke, considering you should have been in with the fires. |
